Superior Canaries Send Pilgrims Packing

The Canaries, recorded a vital result against Plymouth in their battle for survival. It was a nervy game, but in the end the Canaries recorded a 1-0 win that their dominating play deserved. The result lifted Norwich out of the relegation zone and put them just one point behind Plymouth.

No real surprises pre-match as Bryan Gunn named an unchanged squad. The first half was dominated by Norwich, but clear-cut chances were few and far between. Most of Norwich's best attacking moves came through Hoolahan. The best of the chances fell to the front duo of Alan Gow and David Mooney. However, on both occasions the target was missed.

Just before half-time, Hoolahan appeared to be struggling with an injury. Unfortunately, the Irishman wasn't able to continue and was replaced by David Carney at half-time. The second half started brightly for City, and they took an early lead.

The Canaries won a corner. The ball came in and was headed back across goal by Gary Doherty, where Mooney was left with the simplest of free headers. It should be noted that the Plymouth goalkeeper attempted to come out and clear the ball, but he got nowhere near it.

The second half continued in similar vein, with the best chances falling to Norwich. Just one chance of note for Plymouth, and that was off target. As the game headed towards the end it was Norwich, who nearly added to the scoring. Substitute Cody McDonald picked up the ball and ran forward with it before shooting from well outside the area. The ball only just cleared the crossbar.

The one sour note for Norwich was the sending-off of Darel Russell for two bookable offences. Unfortunately, due to the fact it is the second time, Russell has been sent off this season he will miss the next two games. Following this result Norwich will be confident they can beat the drop, and they have their destiny firmly back in their own hands.
