The nation's amusement parks are constantly battling to offer the most thrills to their customers. Often, these amusement parks build roller coasters in hopes of attracting more patrons, and more press. Amusement Today releases a yearly list of the Top 50 steel roller coasters. These are the top 5 steel roller coasters in 2007. All information on these roller coasters was found at The Roller Coaster Database.

1 - Superman - Ride of Steel
Six Flags New England

Easily considered one of the best roller coasters since it's inaugural season in 2000, Superman - Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England is a hyper coaster that packs in the thrills and excitement. Created by Intamin AG,SROS (as Superman - Ride of Steel is often referred to) features a 221 foot drop and takes riders to speeds over 75 m.p.h. While the ride features a tunnel, the main thrill that comes from this ride is the air-time. Air-time, known loosely as "the time you feel weightless", is what really excites many rollercoasters rides. SROS's multiple air-time hills give this roller coaster it's major punch. The ride features a steep drop as well as multiple large hills that give riders plenty of that precious air-time. 3 - Nitro
Six Flags Great Adventure

4 - Apollo's Chariot
Busch Gardens Europe

Originally named "Busch Gardens Williamsburg", Busch Gardens Europe's prized creation is it's B&M hyper coaster, Apollo's Chariot. The ride is most famous for the infamous Fabio stunt (Fabio rode the ride in the front during it's opening, and was hit by a goose during the ride. He came back to the station with a bloody nose with cameras awaiting his return). Those who have ridden Apollo's Chariot have made it famous for it's thrilling 200 foot drop. The roller coaster features 8 other major hills, and takes riders to a speed of over 70 m.p.h. For more information, visit www.buschgardens.com.

5 - Magnum XL-200
Cedar Point

When Cedar Point built Magnum XL-200 in 1989, it new it was creating one of the worlds tallest, most thrilling rides. What it did not realize, however, was that the roller coaster would still be one of the most famous in the world, even after the park built the world's first 300 and 400 foot roller coasters. Known for it's massive amounts of air-time, Magnum-XL 200 takes riders through two tunnels and a "pretzel turn around". The bunny hills toward the end of the ride launch riders upward into their restraints. For more information on Magnum XL-200, visit www.cedarpoint.com.

Through the massive amounts of roller coasters in the United States, these are the roller coasters that are considered the top 5 in the nation. They're even considered the best in the world. If you are lucky enough to find and ride these roller coasters, be prepared for thrills that you never imagined possible.
