While you can always purchase fake eyelashes at any local drugstore or try one of the many eyelash growing supplements, like Latisse, curling your own lashes at home is easier, cheaper and far more natural. Products like Latisse come with possible, irreversible side effects, and fake lashes can be messy and may look great on the runway but not at the office. With these simple steps you can have gorgeously curled and groomed lashes anytime and for any occasion.
1. Always start off with perfectly clean lashes. Any gunk or build-up will hinder your eyelash curler's ability to shape your lashes.
2. Make sure that your eyelash curler is also clean and devoid of any old mascara. Mascara build-up will make your curler less effective as well as harbor bacteria. Swiping your curler with a swab of eye make-up remover or tea tree oil will help keep it in perfect, sanitized condition.
3. Place your eyelash curler at your eyelid line making sure that all of your eyelashes are in the curler.
4. Once your curler is in position, close the curler and then open it back up. Continue to do this close and open motion as you work your way back up to the tips of your eyelashes. Repeat as necessary until you get the degree of curl that you desire. For a more dramatic curl, you can opt to warm up your eyelash curler by blasting it for a few seconds with your hair dryer. This turns your curler into a mini curling iron for your lashes.
5. After your lashes are curled you can apply a coat of mascara. Make sure that you apply mascara only after curling your lashes. Curling your lashes when they are already coated in mascara can damage them.
6. As a rule of thumb, less is more when it comes to mascara. One or two coats should be more than enough. Choose a mascara with a curling enhancer, such as Clinique's Lash Curling Mascara, to keep your lashes standing at attention from dusk until dawn.
7. Bat your lashes, and you are ready to go!
With these simple steps you can have eyelashes that take years off of your face and make your eyes look bright and well rested. A clean eyelash curler, and a nice lash enhancing mascara is all you need to achieve supermodel lashes without the dangers of prescription lash enhancers or the messy, unnatural look of fake lashes. A few minutes a day will give you that fresh, wide awake look we all want!
