Supernatural 4.7 Episode Review Halloween

4.7 It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester

The seventh episode of the fourth season of Supernatural aired on October 30th, 2008. The episode is titled It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester. The episode centers around a witch trying to raise a powerful demon on Halloween. Warning: my episode review contains plot spoilers.

It's the Great Pumpkin; Sam Winchester continues the end of the world storyline that is the focus of the fourth season of Supernatural. Dean and Sam are yet again posing as FBI agents, this time trying to stop a witch from raising Sam Haine, the original demon who the origins of Halloween is based on. The episode takes a serious turn, which is a stark contrast from the last two semi-funny episodes of the season.

Dean, suddenly optimistic and ready to save the world, thinks the brothers can stop Sam Haine from raising and destroying the small town. Unfortunately, Castiel and a fellow angel are not so optimistic and supposedly are in town to destroy the town with orders from God. Actually their orders are just a ploy to see how Dean can control a situation or run an army or whatever. But anyway, Dean and Sam save the town but one of the 66 seals is broken and now the world is one step closer to ending. So did Dean pass the test? Of course Sam thinks he failed and Castiel never gives a straight answer. I personally think he did pass the test, the test of faith. Dean didn't give up and I think that is all that matters.

The title of the episode would give the impression that the episode is about Sam, which is a false impression. Sure we learn Sam thinks the angels are jerks, he is losing his faith in God, and he uses his demon powers but really all of that is done in such a laid back way that again Sam takes a backburner in this episode. I am starting to feel sorry for the actor Jared Padalecki because his character seems to be always standing in Dean's shadow. Plus Jensen Ackles' character is given way better lines. My personal favorite is when Dean is talking about a victim and says "She is so vanilla, made vanilla seem spicy."

Overall, the episode was a tad disappointing to me. I think the writers could have done a lot better job on a Halloween episode. What was wrong with the episode? The villain was boring. There weren't that many clever lines which is odd for a Supernatural episode. The scenes with Castiel and the new angel were also boring. Maybe I am bored with the whole end of the world storyline already. Either get to the point or move on already. I give the episode 3 out of 5 stars.

Supernatural is the most interesting, coolest show on t.v. today. It's X-files times 10, with a deeper spiritual meaning. The demonic referecences are the most. I was wondering where exactly did you get your historical references from? Please respond, I have more questions.
