Supernatural: A Television Series Review

Greg Seltz
Please acknowledge that I critique the aforementioned title, and base the associated review off personal opinion. However, I personally believe that perspective is responsible for separating the individual opinion, and hence provides for contradictive views. Naturally, I assume various individuals will adopt contrastingly diverse opinions. Of course, this is how I, personally, perceive the television series.

The Summary

Supernatural, which originally debuted in September of 2005, is a horror/drama television series. The main characters include Sam and Dean Winchester, sons of John Winchester, a reputable hunter of supernatural and paranormal beings. Initially, Sam is depicted as a typical college student pursuing a law degree. However, Dean reluctantly appears to inform Sam their father is reported missing. Naturally, Sam is hesitant to engage in said activities and assist Dean. After a tragic event involving the death of his girlfriend, a death with events relative to the fate suffered by their own mother, though, Sam adopts a similar lifestyle that is associated with the family business, hunting. Season 1 includes various urban legends and myths that the brothers must succeed for the greater good.

The Cast

Sam is portrayed by Jared Padalecki, and Dean by Jensen Ackles. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays the reoccurring father character of John. Fortunately, the cast is limited to the respective actors, though various other characters randomly occur throughout the series. Padalecki is most aptly known for the slasher films he participates in, such as House of Wax and the Friday the 13th remake. I first noticed Ackles in the 3d horror film, My Bloody Valentine. Initially, the despised the talentless actor who overacted each line. However, after viewing television series such as Smallville and Supernatural, the actor eventually formulated a new opinion on his portrayals.

My Opinion

Of course, as previously mentioned, others may fail to perceive similar opinions regarding the series. I, however, have developed a particular taste for the show, the characters, and the exciting storylines involved. Often, genre fluctuates between drama, horror, and comedy as the brothers pursue occasional demons, wraiths, etc. Unfortunately, I am a bit belated on the plots of further seasons, as I have barely begun Season 2. Though I understand that seasons typically become tedious and repetitive over time, I am still very excited to indulge in the each episode. And though I am hesitant to adopt any series, I can honestly compare my current satisfaction to that of say Lost & Heroes. For fans of sci-fi and mystery relating to supernatural occurrences and mythical history, I highly recommend Supernatural.
