In an interview with If Magazine, series creator Eric Kripke confirmed that fellow hunter Bobby (Jim Beaver) and Ellen (Samantha Ferris) will both be returning to aid the brothers in the ensuing war. It's not clear if Ellen will resurrect her roadhouse burned by the yellow-eyed demons flunkies in the finale.
And if battling all the demons released isn't enough, hunter Gordon (Sterling K. Brown) will still be after Sam, despite the fact that Sam no longer has his premonition ability. Also back on the boys trail is FBI Agent Henrickson (Charles Malik Whitfield).
Meanwhile, two new series regulars will be added to the cast this season. First, the boys will meet another hunter, Ruby, played by Katie Cassidy (7th Heaven), daughter of David Cassidy (The Partridge Family). While the Winchester brothers will cross paths with Ruby, they will not be teaming up with her. From what I hear, Ruby is a ruthless loner that makes Dean look like a teddy bear. Word is we'll get a big reveal about Ruby in the second episode. Maybe it's an explanation as to why her moral compass is skewed.
Also crossing paths with Sam and Dean is a hunter of a different sort. Bela, played by Lauren Cohan (Casanova), is a hunter of the almighty dollar. This mercenary is dabbling in the occult because she has buyers for all the cool charms, amulets and other supernatural paraphernalia.
Kripke confirmed in an interview with TV Guide that neither girl is intended as a love interest for the boys. However, we will be meeting a lover from Dean's past in one of the first few episodes, along with her eight-year-old son. Did I mention this women and Dean had a thing about nine years ago and that the boy looks a lot like the Dean?
Maybe the possibility of being a father will give Dean something to live for. Because rumor has it that ever since he sold his sold in the finale, Dean has been living like there's no tomorrow. Sam is not amused by his brother's death wish.
Although we don't expect to see John Winchester back this season, due to the very busy schedule of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Papa Winchester will live on in the Supernatural: Origins comic with six more issues due out.
In the season opener, the Dean and Sam will team up with a married pair of hunters to battle demons representing the seven deadly sins. And the battle begins.
The series returns on Thursday, October 4th on CW at 9 p.m.
