Two young boys went to the park to play on December 23rd. This was two days before Christmas. The two boys were just little kids, one was seven and the other was ten. I have four sons. Two are ten, one is seven, and one is four. The little boys were seen on a neighbors surveillance camera walking in the direction of the park alone. They were on their way to play, run around and just be kids, I'm sure. They expected a day of fun and what they got instead was attacked.
About one minutes after the two little boys were seen on the video footage a man was seen walking in the same direction. This man was a thirty-six year old who was carrying a long blunt object. That long blunt object was a baseball bat which was later found at his residence along with some bloody clothing.
So there the sweet little boys are, walking along to have a great day of holiday fun. No mom or dad in sight. They were going to the park alone. They had no fear of being attacked as they strolled along. Why would a child? A child would never think of predators or psychos walking behind them watching them as prey.
They made it to the park. That's when the man made his move. He brutally beat these two little boys with a baseball bat until they were as good as dead. Why? Why would someone do such a horrific thing? Who knows. We don't know why and will never know why there are people who do things as terrible as this.
The little boys were discovered by a neighbor several hours after the attack. How long did they lay there bleeding and in pain unattended and unnoticed?
The younger boy did die the morning after Christmas. Last I knew the older one was still in critical condition. What a surprise the parents of these children had...when they found out it was their children who has been the ones that were attacked.
Supervision could have prevented this. Those two little boys were cousins. There were two mothers and two fathers that could have prevented the attack from occurring. These children could have celebrated Christmas and played with their toys all through their school vacation. They'd be back to school by now, doing homework and getting tucked in each and every night like usual had they have not been alone at the park.
Parents, no place is a safe place to let children go to alone, not even the park. If the parents had been with these children they'd have their children. They'd have been supervising and on the watch for anything odd or unusual. They'd have been able to spot the odd guy and to say "Okay kids, it's time to go." They could have left the park with the children safely. They could have reported the strange man. Chances are the man would have never entered the park if there had been adults there with those kids.
Supervise your children always. Do not let them walk down the streets alone. There are some very sick and twisted people in this world. You don't see things like this happening to you until it's too late. Knowing that things like this can and do happen is the first step. Using this as a reason to watch your children is the prevention.
