Support Our Troops on Veterans Day and All Year Round
It Takes More Than a Bumper Sticker to Support Our Troops; It Takes Action!
Many of us have relatives who have served in one or more branches of the United States Armed Services. Some of us have lost a loved one in service to their country. We know that Support the Troops is more than just a bumper sticker or a flag pin worn on the chest.
No matter what your resources or capabilities are, you too, can show your support for the troops serving overseas with the following ideas and suggestions, this Veterans Day.
Write a letter
Everyone can write a letter. Make it personal, choose a penpal to begin a committed letter exchange with. Send cards, funny jokes, messages of support and encouragement. Find out where they live in the US and send news clippings from their local newspaper on local events and fun news. Keep your letters light and hopeful, full of encouragement and "support!". There are some great online resources to help you connect with a serviceman or woman this Veterans Day. Then keep it up afterwards.
Any soldier. Com was started by one family and look how it grew!
Support our Troops has a huge listing of organizations needing penpal writers.
A million Thanks
Send a care package
If you'd like to do a bit more than just send a letter there are some great organizations that help you arrange for care packages and special treats to be sent to show your support for the troops.
Hero Box was again started by one family to support their soldier and now is a full time non profit doing the same for thousands of troops overseas.
Can you knit or crochet, then Warmth for Warriors might be just the thing for you to support the troops.
Support our Troops has some other organizations that are specific to various areas organizing care packages
You can contact your local National Guard unit in your community to obtain names to show your troop support to for the wonderful work that the men and women of the National Guard are doing overseas.
This Veterans Day choose one of the above to truly Support the Troops this year!

thanks for including the great resources!
Great article! Vets eat free at Applebee's on Nov. 11th and there's no better place for veterans to go than here in Branson, MO.
Fantastic!
Excellent ideas!
These are absolutely wonderful ideas!
Thanks for reminding everyone of the soldiers and veterans who keep us all safe.
We all need to be reminded.
Betty, thanks for sharing several resources. I have just been thinking about this issue. The Ships Project is another group that can use knitters, crocheters, and sewers.
What a great reminder, Betty! I so agree. Our soldiers and veterans do not get all the respect ahd care they deserve.
