How many conservatives and Republicans actually believe the left has sound political advice for helping Republicans' rule successfully? Anyone? How many think it wise to comport to whatever demand progressives lay at our feet, and that is the path to political success for anyone OTHER than progressives? Do progressives actually have the best interests at heart for Republican political success? If the answer is no, then why would anyone Republican in DC cave to any of their demands? Progressives are now in the political minority in the House, where the real power of law making and spending resides.
Republicans have ONE CHANCE to get this right. If they do not drastically cut spending, guess who will be blamed for it? Won't be progressives, I'll tell you that! Won't be Obama. It will be Republicans. Progressives know to again prevail all they need to do is play spoiler and keep spending high, deficits large and the national debt climbing and come election time in 2012 we will hear "Republican's rose the debt to "X" levels! It's all their fault!" Is there a single non-progressive who can read my words that doubts my accuracy in making this prognostication?
Progressives do not want Republican rule to be successful. It really riles me that Republican idiots ever buy into progressive demands, but the tone from the Hill at this moment is one of Republican's dancing to the progressive song. Republicans were sent to DC to stop Obama and progressives, NOT to agree with them. Despite mainstream media and despite the Tuscon tragedy, the citizens did not elect Republicans to cave into progressive demands.
I know politics is an ugly game. I get that we will have to raise the debt ceiling because time is growing short to act, so we must first raise the debt ceiling to remain solvent on paper and then we need to slash and burn our way through the DC mindset of spend, tax and borrow. Any failure will give progressives the fodder they need. Progressives know all they need do is play a waiting game, put up stumbling blocks, demand "civility" and a return of some form of the Fairness Doctrine, and lo and behold it will be 2012 election season and Republicans will have NOT done what they were sent to DC to do, and progressives will have their field day.
Of course progressives control most media so they will do their level best to preach the progressive talking points and demand that it's the citizens wanting Republicans to be more "civil." If only progressives would be, perhaps Republicans could return the favor, but no, they have media to influence the disinterested fool.
As I opened with, if you think progressives are actually offering constructive advice for sound Republican leadership, you are a numbskull of epic proportions. Buying into ANY of their demands will see Republicans wear the mantle of shame for not accomplishing what they were sent to DC to accomplish. I am truly shocked at the stupidity of my fellows. Really shocked and saddened.
Waiting in the wings are progressives who will scream "we can't cut spending because that will make the economy worse," as was forwarded late last week by a progressive politician. Can reader's see how this is a damned if you do, damned if ya don't proposition? Massive cuts in government will lead to TEMPORARY increases in unemployment for sure. But if we don't cut now there will be at best a temporary improvement in economy. We cannot continue to spend, borrow and tax. That IS NOT the path to economic prosperity except in Keynesian economics which are an across the board failure. Look at Europe to see our future if we go down the path.
See how it works? If we do cut spending, the left will scream "Republicans made unemployment worse!" If we do not cut spending the malaise will drag on and the left will scream "See, Republicans didn't fix anything!" See? Damned if we do, damned if we don't!
Conservatism takes thought. It isn't as easy as feeling and emoting. It takes an ability to understand history for its lessons and to not repeat the mistakes. The problem is the people in mass are not too bright. Individually people are smart but as the saying goes, "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." The larger the group the lower the common denominator to stupidity. Therefore, if we do not alter our path, history will repeat itself. Isn't this glaringly apparent?

Post a Comment"Progressives do not want Republican rule to be successful." DUH! Did you really say that? After republicans made it their mission to make Obama fail, and actually said it out loud? And it really riles me that the dems bought into the Republican demands and gutted the health care bill. I don't see the "Republican's dancing to the progressive song" one bit! In the midst of the largest group of retirees coming up, they CUT social security payroll deductions! When our govt is running a whopping deficit, they retained Bush's ill-advised tax cuts. What's wrong with this picture?.
I agree! Your last point is making me think smart people need to back each other up more and make the time to get out and be heard. There is a strange phenomenon that occurs when people gather together in mass. If one bad apple gets in the bunch they truly can spoil the whole bunch. It's peer pressure on steroids... politically correct is the latest name it has been given. This is why families need to strengthen and talk with each other with the TV off once in a while. If good people get their heads straight when the pressure's off... they will be better equipped to NOT cave to the pressure of politically correctness. Those pushing that, know so well how to scream their message, and make the "masses" feel like they don't fit in, if they disagree! The Republicans have to be strong and do the right thing. Even President Obama said its not about being popular. So there, the heats off! Ha!
Ummm, Lorraine's comment disappeared as soon as I posted mine... I don't know if I had anything to do with that.
The Republican's always seem to take the blame for everything that goes wrong, they do not help themselves, I agree they need to have backbone and to keep to their beliefs to succeed. Bush is still taking the blame for everything that goes wrong in politics
My father once told me, "When you do not know what to do - at least try to do something." The best advice I believe. cheers ;)
