Surfing in Fiji

Ebie Harris
The best time to surf in Fiji is during the summer season; November to March. The summer season offers beautiful weather and a chance to catch the best swells. There is no better place to surf in Fiji than on a private island. Situated inside the Great Sea Reef, Nukubati, is a private island that offers amazing surfing opportunities. This being the only resort with access to the Great Sea Reef surf, Nukubati is sure to host that one of a kind surfing experience you are looking for.

Here you will find that there are two main reef passes, Raviravi and Twin Passage. Both of these have a lefthander and a righthander opposite each other. The Twin Passage is said to be more of a fun carefree wave, whereas Raviravi's is harder to approach and intense. With boats and guides to take you out you will have the opportunity to be the only ones out there surfing (snorkeling tours also available).

If you need to take a break from surfing there are many other activities to participate in. If you want to stay on the water partake in a fishing tour, windsurfing lesson, sailing expedition, snorkeling, or try your hand at octopus hunting. If you crave dry land for awhile you will not be disappointed. You can shop, take a cooking class, hike around the island, or participate in on of the many sports offered. In the mood to be pampered? Then jet over to the spa for a one of a kind outdoor massage experience.

You can stay right where you play; Nukubati has four spacious beach side bungalow suites to chose from. The rooms are all light and airy and are decorated with a style of past Fiji days. All meals, food and drinks, are included during your stay. Meals can be eaten anywhere you chose; the pavilion, your room, or the beach. All meals times are flexible. As Nukubati is known for there food you will be sure to be treated to a meal to remember. Seafood is caught right here at the resort and is blended together with a mixture of tropical fruits and vegetables from the resorts own garden. Each meal is cooked using traditional South Pacific recipes and made using only the best local herbs and spices.

Ideal weather, awesome swells, and great hospitality make this a surfing trip you will not forget.
