Surprise! I Love Dancing with the Stars

A Review

Survivor, Apprentice, The Bachelor, Big Brother, American Idol, Fear Factor, The Next Supermodel (or whatever it's called), the television is full of reality shows, all of them with some entertainment value, but not much if you ask me. I mean really, they may contain a few chuckles and suspense but all that suffering drives me right up a wall and eventually to clicking the remote.

One reality show that I've been bitten by, you heard me right there is apparently a reality show bug going around, is Dancing With The Stars. Again and again, season after season I switch it on. If I can't be home it's recorded or I watch the episode on the Internet. I can't seem to get enough of it, I'm insatiable, I wish it was on every night. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, there are glitches and things that are suspect but it is always entertaining and fun!

For instance, it seems the producers always find at least one B rated celebrity with either a dance background or something similar, this season's contestant with an edge is former skating champion, Kristi Yamaguchi. Oh sure she claims to be nervous and even says she didn't know if she could dance ballroom. But watch some championship ice-skating, those folks have a practiced grace and co-ordination. Last season it was a girl who was a singer in a girl band in which they both sang and danced. Guess what? She didn't win! There is usually quite a bit of diversity in the cast, This season among others we have a Broadway Tony Award Winner, an NFl football player, an oscar winning actress who happens to not be able to hear the music and Elvis Presley's ex-wife. The age range is as wide as their individual talents and challenges.

That's the fun in it. You truly never know what will happen. Emmett Smith won a couple of seasons ago and no one in their right mind thought that was possible. This show is not only entertaining, but the contestants actually learn something! They are all for the most part, graceful losers too. They lose weight, get in shape, and learn a very beautiful and useful skill. They work darn hard at it too. What's not to like?

There is no cash prize. No sniping and back biting amongst the participants. There have judges that are harsh at times but show appreciation for effort, like good teachers do. I really love it I think because I don't care who wins or loses, it's just fun to watch and the drama is just part of the entertainment factor. Try it, you'll like it, I know you will.
