Surprises & Guest Stars Slated for Final Episodes of Ugly Betty

Fans of the ABC TV series "Ugly Betty" recently were saddened by the news that the show is being canceled. But now that it's known that the final episode is coming soon, rumors are swirling about possible guest stars, returning characters, and wrapping up of story lines.

The final episode will air April 14, 2010.

"Ugly Betty," which premiered in 2006, is now in its fourth season. It's followed the adventures of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), an aspiring journalist who lands at one of New York City's biggest fashion magazines, Mode. Betty's skewed sense of style, unibrow and braces made her a fish out of water in the ultra-fashionable world of Mode. But her charm and buoyant nature make her ... well, if not beautiful, at least adorable.

The show started off well in the ratings, but faltered in Season 3, and several moves in the lineup didn't help. Although there is a strong core fan base, "Betty" just never got the audience it should have.

Now, writers and producers are working to resolve a number of questions vital to "Ugly Betty," such as Betty's love life, Mode's future, and the burning question of when Betty will get her braces off.

It's been confirmed that the March 17 episode (Episode 15 of Season 4), "All the World's a Stage," will involve Justin, Betty's nephew, who will find himself attracted to a classmate at acting school. (It's also being bandied about that Justin will kiss a boy at some point - but it's not known if it will be on this episode or another one.) More drama is expected when Betty falls for a playwright she's writing about for Mode, and Wilhelmina lands in the hospital with a perforated ulcer. Carol Kane guest stars as Justin's teacher.

On the next episode, "Million Dollar Smile," on March 24 (Episode 16), Betty visits her orthodontist and is accidentally knocked unconscious. She dreams of what life would be like if she had been born with perfect teeth. However, expect to see a very different Betty, as well as changes in Betty's sister Hilda, Betty's dad Ignacio, Marc, Amanda and Daniel in the dream sequence. Guest starring is Kathy Najimy as orthodontist Dr. Frankel.

On the several remaining episodes, more surprises lie ahead. Some characters from previous seasons are due to make a reappearance on the show. Christina, Betty's best friend (Ashley Jensen), will return. Also, Betty's old flame Gio (Freddy Rodriguez) is coming back. In negotiations for a special appearance is Christopher Gorham, who plays former Betty boyfriend Henry. It's thought there may be a Henry-Gio showdown ... perhaps for the finale?

It's confirmed that Jensen will appear on Episode 18, in which Betty and Hilda head to London for Fashion Week, and they encounter Christina there. A bachelorette party is in the works for the engaged Hilda. Also, it looks like Betty does have her braces off in time for this episode, according to London's Daily Mail.

As far as the finale itself (Episode 20), many Betty fans are hoping she'll end up with Daniel Meade, her former boss, but it's thought that the shows' writers have something different in mind, such as Betty leaving - on her own - for greener pastures.
