Everyday Foods that Will Curb Your Appetite

Losing weight is a big business here in the United States. There are thousands of products out there that are supposed to make you lose weight. But if you read the disclaimer, most of them say: "with a diet and exercise program." Here's a secret: it's the diet and exercise part that helps you lose weight, not the expensive "fat burners" and herbal supplements.

The secret to losing weight is simple: eat less, eat more healthy foods, and get exercise. For most people, that's the trick. But losing weight that way takes time and we Americans want everything in a hurry, a magic pill, an overnight solution.

Some people can lose weight rapidly, but when you do that you gain it back just as quickly. Some can accomplish the slow process on their own, and some have to join a weight loss group or go to a gym. For others, the only solution is the drastic step of having stomach surgery.

But what if there are some foods out there that can naturally help you lose weight? And these aren't the gimmicky "super foods" that you hear about all of the time, just normal everyday foods that you eat all the time, or if you don't, you can easily get them at the supermarket. According to WebMD:

The first food is Greek yogurt. Why not just regular yogurt? Greek yogurt has twice as much protein as any of the other types of yogurt. Protein takes a long time to digest, so you feel fuller long.

The next food is one that you may not be familiar with: Quinoa. Quinoa is a grain that is packed with protein and fiber. It also has a lot of other nifty vitamins and minerals in it and it's real easy to cook, sort of like rice. You can also mix it in with some assorted vegetables for a nice dinner.

Cinnamon is a great way to sweeten food without adding a lot of sugar. I like to go to the spice store and get the real stuff. Recent studies show that cinnamon can help stabilize blood sugar levels and that can make you feel less hungry. It as also been shown to be beneficial to type 2 diabetics.

Hot, spicy foods: Hot, spicy foods really haven't been shown to burn fat, but they have been shown to make you eat less.

Watermelon, pears, and apples: These fruits are nutritious, not very high in calories, no fat, and they have a lot of water. This can make you feel full and eat less. If you have a juicer, you can drink the juices of these fruits, but make sure and save the fiber to incorporate into recipes.

Vegetable snacks: No, I don't mean potato chips here. What I do mean is more like the fresh vegetables. Instead of dipping them in Ranch try coating them with a little peanut butter or dipping them in some salsa. Remember the hot and spicy idea?

Eggs: Have some eggs for breakfast. If you're worried about your cholesterol, then get Egg Beaters. Both have lots of protein and studies show that a protein packed breakfast with stave off hunger longer than a donut or bagel.

So, combine some of these foods with a good exercise program and you won't see those pounds just shed off, but you will lose weight as long as you are consistent.
