Surrogates - a Movie Review

Movie Man
The premise of Surrogates is such a cool idea. To have a Surrogate do everything for you while you still feel the effects but are safe is an interesting plot. I would not doubt it that this type of technology is already being developed.

If you are looking for a movie that really delves into the development and back story of this technology, you don't want to go see this movie. This is a straight-up 88-minute whodunnit. The movie starts out with the back story that lasts for about 2 minutes. It is actually pretty interesting and easy to understand. Basically the rest of the movie is Bruce Willis trying to fugure out who is killing the surrogates and their hosts. Willis plays basically two parts. At first we see him playing the surrogate in the first half of the movie then playing a human the second half. This is done pretty well. All of the actors playing the surrogates do a very good job acting like robots. They are kind of creepy in their movements and the way they talk. There are some really cool scenes showing the company making the robots. And other scenes when some women robots are getting face lifts.

The CGI in the movie is first-rate. They are seemless and most of the time you cant tell what is real and what is fake.

Now the only thing that I think is wrong about the movie is the fact that it wasnt long enough, and it could have developed the characters alittle more. The only thing you get about Bruce Willis' character is that he is married and they have a son or they dont. If they would have added another half hour to the movie and gave some back ground to more of the characters, this would have been a great sci-fi movie. As it stands now you get some excellent CGI, cool premise, Bruce Willis (always cool), and some good action scenes. Alittle more depth would have made it better.

My score: 6/10
