Surviving the Two Week Wait

What to do While Waiting to Find out if You're Pregnant

Surviving the two week wait can be one of the hardest parts of trying to conceive. Once you have confirmed ovulation, waiting that two weeks till your missed period can seem like a lifetime.

Many two week waiters will head to the internet in search of every symptom they have to try to get a clue as to what is happening with their body. While there is nothing wrong with this, it can immediately drive you crazy to the point of obsession.

The key to surviving the two week wait is distraction. Find ways to occupy your mind and prevent you from obsessing over every single symptom. I know, easier said than done. The fact of the matter is that sitting on the computer googling every symptom in relation to what day past ovulation you are, is just going to make that two week wait slow to a crawl.

Here are some ideas on what you can do to make the two week wait fly by.

- Get a hobby. Whether it is scrapbooking, needlecraft, jewelry making, sewing, wood working, finding a way to occupy your mind will prevent you from thinking about other things. Scrapbook your wedding or knit a baby blanket. Start making handmade gifts for Christmas. Start sewing future baby items.

- Start a business. If you do have a hobby that you are good at, try to start up a business. Create your crafts and then sell them online at sites such as etsy.com.

- Housekeeping. Odds are there is something around your house that you've been putting off. Clean out the closet. Organize the closet. Weed the garden. Plant a garden. Redecorate the kitchen. Have a garage sale for spare money to put in the baby's future piggy bank.

- Go Online. Create a blog and write about your experiences. Maybe it will help someone else who is just starting the process of trying to conceive. Better yet, design your own website. You can post a blog online and sell your crafts from your website I guarantee that between maintenance on the site and networking your product this will take some time.

- Get a second job. I don't necessarily mean drive to Wal-Mart and work evenings. However, there are many ways to make money from home. Once you create your blog add some affiliate links to it. Take surveys online. Write articles for Associated Content. Create a direct sales business such as Avon, Mary Kay, Stampin Up or Memoryworks.

No matter how much you distract yourself, it'll always be in the back of your mind somewhere. The goal is to try not to obsess over it and hopefully the time will fly by.
