Survivor: Life at Ponderosa

Life at Ponderosa for a Survivor Juror

Alice Clair Gunkee
Have you ever wondered what happens to the Survivor who is voted off but then is a part of the Survivor Jury? After their torch is snuffed and they make their exit down the stairs away from the Tribal Council, the recently voted off Survivor has to report to a medical team. A Survivor medical person gives the newly ousted Survivor a physical check-up; the biggest report usually being how much weight they lost playing the game of Survivor. Once a clean bill of health is given the Survivor is driven to a place fondly called "Ponderosa" where Survivor Jury members can get reacquainted with amenities we in the real world take for granted. Survivors participating on the Survivor Jury will stay at Ponderosa until the final Tribal Council takes place on the island.

Survivor Jury members can enjoy Life at Ponderosa and all the luxuries provided at Ponderosa while contemplating how their fellow tribe mates are faring day-to-day. Ponderosa is fully staffed with excellent chefs and other staff members. Chefs prepare all the food a starving Survivor can eat. There are individual cabins and tents for the Survivors to call their own. The first Survivors to be sent to Ponderosa can choose between a small "cabin" and a tent. I use the word cabin loosely as it looks a lot like a metal shed you would put in your back yard to hold yard tools. Of course there is also running water for brushing teeth and private showering with real soap, rags and towels; real beds (well cots but it's still better than a bamboo mattress) with sheets and pillows; and a gift box full of goodies from a Survivor sponsor. Survivors at Ponderosa can pass the time by watching movies, playing video games, and go on special field trips and excursions around the island that has been set up by CBS.

But it's not all fun and games at Ponderosa. The game is still very much on everyone's mind. Survivor Jury members are taken back to sit in at each Tribal Council until the final Tribal Council is played out. During Tribal Councils, members of the Survivor Jury are there to listen and learn but not speak, especially to the Survivors remaining in the game. Once back at Ponderosa, members of the Survivor Jury will discuss what is going on in the game, who they believe deserves to win and why. They are out of the running for the million dollars but still a very important part of the game.

Internet users can view each jury member's journey from Tribal Council to their new life at Ponderosa via small video clips that are only available online at Life at Ponderosa.
