Survivor May 6 Recap: Heroes Vs Villains
Colby and Rupert Battle to Stay in the Game as the Villains' Dominance Continues
The teaser for the Survivor May 6 episode showed there would be two tribal councils in the episode. Typically when there are two tribals, it means the two people being sent home are the most predictable, like in Survivor Samoa when Dave and Monica were sent packing on the same episode.
Using that logic, we expect Colby and Rupert to be voted out, since they seem to be the next in line to go. If a big shot like Parvati or Russell were being sent home, CBS would surely give them an entire episode, right?
Survivor May 6 Recap: Fallout from last week's tribal council
Last week Sandra wanted to vote with the Heroes to take out Russell, but Russell wisely saw that move coming and brought Candice over to his side. No matter what anyone says about Russell, the man is a genius at playing this game.
Early in the May 6 episode, the Heroes express their anger at Candice flipping at tribal council. "We were this close to having it back!," Rupert screams in frustration. On the Villains tribe, Jerri isn't happy about it either, noting that since Candice has shown she's willing to switch sides, she could just as easily flip back. "We don't need her anymore," Jerri says.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Immunity challenge #1
At the challenge Jeff Probst informs the tribe they are not playing for reward but rather for immunity. Each player has an overhead bucket of water tied to his or her arm, and the goal is to simply hold the arm up for as long as possible. Just one minute in, Jeff offers the participants cookies and milk to drop out. Sandra and Russell accept and share the food. Minutes later, Colby drops out for donuts.
After 35 minutes, Jeff offers a package of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, candy, and milk. Danielle, Jerri and Candice step down to share the food, leaving Parvati and Rupert to battle. Rupert fights hard, but after an hour he can no longer stand on the small platform. He slips and Parvati wins immunity.
After the challenge, Jeff reads a clue to the hidden immunity idol to everyone. The clue describes two trees in specific detail - enough detail that someone should be able to find the idol without too much effort. It looks like there will be a mad rush to find the idol once everyone gets back to camp.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Search for the hidden immunity idol
"The minute we got to camp, all of a sudden people just started running," says Sandra. Russell is the odds-on favorite to find it, but Sandra digs not far from him and finds the idol without anyone noticing.
Rupert has no luck finding the idol but instead sticks a rock in his shorts pocket to make it look like he may have an idol. It seems like a silly idea, but Russell notices the bulge and becomes convinced Rupert has the idol.
The Villains hatch a plan to split the vote between Rupert and Colby, to protect themselves in case Rupert plays the idol. Colby and Rupert decide to vote for Candice and hope that some of the Villains vote for her as well.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Tribal council #1
At tribal, Jeff asks if anyone wants to play an idol. The Villains look around, waiting for Rupert to play the idol they believe he has. When he doesn't, they look concerned. The show even cuts to a commercial break. Is something unexpected and dramatic about to happen?
Rupert receives three votes, but Candice gets five, because some of the Villains thought she was more of a threat than Colby. Candice becomes the fifth member of the jury.
Back at camp Russell is upset that his alliance didn't split the vote between Rupert and Colby. "I'm not fully in control of this game now," Russell admits, stating something that has been obvious to viewers for some time now. "Me and Parvati are equally in control." And that makes him nervous.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Immunity challenge #2
The next immunity challenge involves digging up a peg and running the peg through a complicated maze. The first five survivors to finish move on to the next round of the challenge. Rupert, Sandra, Parvati, Russell, and Danielle finish in time and move on, while Colby and Jerri are knocked out.
The next leg of the challenge involves using four pegs to climb to the top of a climbing wall. The first three to finish - Russell, Parvati and Rupert - move on to the final part of the challenge.
The final round is to slide puzzle pieces around to build the Survivor logo. Parvati falls behind and the battle is clearly between Rupert and Russell. Rupert needs immunity badly, but again falls just short. For the first time in what seems like forever, Russell wins an immunity challenge.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Back at camp
The Villains decide Rupert doesn't have the idol and that he must go home. It seems there's no hope for him.
But suddenly, Russell worries that Parvati and Danielle are becoming too close, so he starts plotting to break them up. He goes to both ladies individually and proclaims his loyalty to each. Parvati and Danielle then have a conversation and realize that Russell has been trying to turn them against each other.
Russell then goes to his arch-enemy Rupert and tells him to write Danielle's name down. He goes to Jerri and tells her the same thing. Russell is determined to break up the bond between his two tribemates. If he can bring Colby and Sandra (or Jerri) onboard as well, he'll have the votes to do it.
Survivor May 6 Recap: Tribal council #2
"Crazy could not describe what happened today," Parvati says at tribal council. Russell and Danielle exchange words. Russell claims that Danielle approached him about blindsiding Parvati, which she vehemently denies. Then, Russell says he was just testing Danielle to see where her loyalty lied. "I don't know why he's testing me," Danielle says, breaking down in tears over the fact that she is now a target of Russell's ire.
Rupert gets the first three votes at tribal council, but the last four are for Danielle, and she is surprisingly knocked out of the game. Russell's plan has worked. But will it cost him in the long run? If Parvati and Jerri no longer trust him, the game has been completely turned upside down.
Survivor May 13 Preview
The Survivor May 6 recap ends with a shocking preview of next week's episode in which Russell, Rupert, and Colby share a handshake and declare, "Final three!" together. Is Rupert really willing to trust Russell? Or is he just pretending to join forces with Russell in order to remain in the game longer? Stay tuned!
