Survivor Nicaragua Episode 10

Taking Out the Power Structure

Brooke Lorren
In Survivor Nicaragua Episode 10, Brenda and Sash were convinced that they were the power brokers of the game. Brenda thought that they were the king and queen of the game: although she was in the position of king. Power shifts easily when those that are being dominated figure out what is going on. That is what happened in this episode.

The Survivor Power Shift

Holly came up with the idea of changing things up. She first talked to Jane, persuading her to leave their alliance with Brenda and Sash. Next, Holly approached Benry to ask him to consider voting them out. Jane spoke to Naonka, who saw that Brenda was a threat, and thought that the plan made sense. If Brenda received immunity, they would vote out Sash instead.

Although most of the Survivors thought that getting rid of Brenda next sounded like a good idea, not everyone liked the plan. Chase thought that Benry should be voted out.

At camp, the weather was bad. The rain was coming. The Survivors moved all their stuff around the fire to try to keep it from going out. They surrounded the fire with their (wooden) chests of food. Evidently, nobody thought that the idea of putting wood right next to the fire was a dumb idea.

The Survivor Reward Challenge

The winners of the reward challenge would get to take a trip to Cerro Negro, an active volcano. They would eat pizza, banana bread, and brownies, and drink soda.

To win the reward the teams would have figure out a way to use barrels, planks, and ropes to maneuver their way across a stretch of beach; while they crossed the beach, no team member could touch the ground. They could choose any way to get across that they could dream up. If one of the team members touched the ground, they would have to start all over again.

The blue team, consisting of Fabio, Naonka, Jane, Chase, and Purple Kelly, developed a system to get across using three barrels. The yellow team, consisting of Benry, Dan, Holly, Sash, and Brenda, struggled. Their team went a short distance, but their barrels rolled when they didn't want to and everybody touched the ground. After they returned to the start line, the blue team easily won.

After the Reward Challenge

Fabio, Naonka, Jane, Chase, and Purple Kelly rode a helicopter to the volcano. When they arrived at the volcano, they rode on boards down the slope, like one would ride on a sled in the snow. They had a good time. They also enjoyed the food set out before them.

Over at the camp, remaining Survivors were not having a good time. The campfire had spread to the wooden chests that they had set next to the fire, and caught most of the rest of the camp on fire. Almost all of the food burned. Part of the tarp had melted, although much of the shelter remained. Even the machete handles had burned.

Scrambling?

After finding out that Brenda was on the chopping block, Chase informed his friend that people were trying to vote her out. He informed her that Holly was behind the plan; Brenda, assured of her own power, wasn't impressed. He tried to get Naonka to change her vote to Holly or Benry, but she wasn't interested. Naonka instead turned to Benry, Holly, and Jane and informed them that he was straddling both alliances.

Survivor Immunity Challenge

For the immunity challenge, the Survivors were to stand on a small platform over the water, leaning back while holding onto a rope. Every 5 minutes, they would move their hands further down the rope, positioning their hands past another knot tied in the rope, making it more difficult for them to hold on.

After the challenge started, Sash and Purple Kelly fell into the water first. Holly fell out third. Brenda, Dan, and Fabio, and Naonka also fell into the water during the first five minutes. Jane, Chase, and Benry hung on long enough to go to the next knot. Benry fell next. When it was just Jane and Chase, Chase informed her that he felt secure and wouldn't be letting go any time soon. Jane's fingers were cramping; she announced that she planned to let go, but Jeff told her to hold on. She dug down a little deeper for some inner strength and held on. Confident Chase fell instead, giving the immunity to Jane.

Saving Brenda?

After the immunity challenge, the members of Libertad had to decide who they were going to vote for. Chase and Sash wanted to vote for Benry, but Naonka informed Sash that most of the tribe was going to vote for Brenda. When Sash informed Brenda that she would be voted out, she couldn't believe that Naonka would betray her. They hatched up a plan to vote for Naonka; Sash would give Brenda the idol, and they would both be safe another day.

Tribal Council

During Tribal Council, Sash mentioned during that the alliances had been reshuffled since the last vote. Brenda complained that Naonka had broken their alliance. Naonka defended herself, saying that she hadn't started the movement to vote out Brenda. Brenda said that she hadn't been scrambling; she expressed that she had done little things to increase her chances of staying in the game, but she gave the impression that she felt that she was above scrambling to save herself. In her opinion, scrambling admitted that you had already lost.

When Jeff asked if anybody wanted to play the hidden immunity idol, Brenda looked at Sash expectantly, hoping that he would give it to her. He had already made his choice; not only did he not choose not to give the idol to her, he voted for her. Everyone except for two people voted for Brenda. Brenda voted for Naonka, and Purple Kelly voted for Benry. Brenda became the 11th person voted out of Survivor Nicaragua.

  • Brenda believed herself to be the king of Survivor Nicaragua, but everyone else had other plans.
  • Brenda hoped that Sash would give her the idol to save her, but even he turned on her.
  • Jane won the immunity challenge, holding on to a rope longer than everyone else.
Jane has to hold on to leashes all the time, as she is a dog walker. Perhaps that helped her gain the strength to win the immunity challenge.

If Nionka and Purple Kelly walked off the show, why are they allowed to be on the jury and vote.
