Survivor Immunity Challenge #1
For the immunity challenge, the players had to answer three questions about Nicaragua. Based on the answer to their questions, they would grab a bag of puzzle pieces. If they were right, the puzzle pieces would be colored, otherwise, they would be black.
All of the players got the first question right. All players except Fabio answered the second question right. Holly was ahead; she and everyone except Fabio and started on their puzzle pieces. Dan had answered the questions correctly, but he was too slow to keep up. Holly was doing well on her puzzle; Sash was doing well too and took the lead. Fabio started his puzzle and began to come back from behind. He did so well that he passed all the others and won immunity.
Fabio tried to convince Chase to vote Holly out, without success. Dan and Fabio then confronted Sash to try to persuade him to vote her out. Sash realized that it was time to start thinking about who they wanted in the final three, and not to place too much emphasis on their alliances.
Tribal Council #1
At tribal council, they discussed how to decide who to vote out. Dan suggested that others should take him to the final three because he lived a nice life and didn't need the money as much as the others, and therefore wouldn't get any votes. Dan said that Holly seemed to be a threat because she was from a small town in North Dakota. Holly thought that his argument was ridiculous.
Evidently, the tribe either believed that Dan was a threat, or they believed that alliances were still important at this point, because they kept Holly and voted out Dan. Dan made a vote against Chase because he wanted to send him a message that he didn't like him.
Remembering Fallen Heroes
Fabio realized that he needed to win immunity; Sash told him that he would take him to the end, although he didn't really mean it. Holly and Chase realized that if Fabio won immunity, it would be a scramble at the end.
A small sword was included with Treemail. The message told the final four to visit the torches of their fallen heroes, and collect a small shield from every person represented.
They remembered the people that were voted out before the jury. Of Wendy Jo, Holly commented, "Whenever you looked at her, she glowed." Chase remembered that he couldn't trust Shannon. Holly said that she wouldn't have made it past day 5 without Jimmy Johnson. Fabio remembered that Jimmy T. was one of the goofier characters. Tyrone was remembered as the fireman. Holly remembered Kelly B. as an inspiration. Yve was a very hard worker. Jill was good in the challenges, but didn't make much of an impact in the new La Fleur tribe.
The final four collected shields from the fallen jury members. Of Alina, Sash remembered her as "one of the best overall competitors." Marty "always had a master plan" remembered Fabio. Sash remembered Brenda as a great strategist. The tribe commented that NaOnka had an idol when she quit. Holly said that it would have been better for Purple Kelly to be voted out than quit. Benry was a huge physical threat. Chase thought Jane was the hardest worker. "Good job Dan," Holly said when they visited his shield.
The Final Immunity Challenge
The final four marched to the beach for the final immunity challenge. They all had a sword. They had to balance the sword on a shield with one hand. With the other hand, they had to balance coins on the end of the sword, which was flat. If the coins toppled over, the Survivor was out.
The coins for the challenge were of various sizes, and were not even like the coins that we have. Jeff would call out which size coin he wanted to be placed on top of the stack. After a while, Fabio's coins looked like they were going to topple. He was able to balance them during the five second period that they were given to add another coin to the stack. Holly lost a coin and was knocked out first. Chase was out shortly afterwards, leaving Sash and Fabio. Although Fabio's coins were tilted at an angle, Sash's coins knocked over first. Fabio won immunity for the third time in a row.
Scrambling to Make the Finals
Fabio was elated to make it to the finals. He enjoyed watching the other two scheme. Sash tried to convince Fabio that Chase was the person that would receive the most votes from the jury. Furthermore, Sash told Fabio that he was his best friend in the game.
When Fabio spoke to Chase, Chase had the opposite thing to say. Chase was at least honest enough to tell him that it would have been him, Sash, and Holly in the end if Fabio hadn't won immunity. Both he and Holly recommended that Fabio vote out Sash. Fabio didn't really think that Chase or Sash deserved to win, but he realized that Holly might get more jury votes.
Tribal Council
Fabio was beaming as he marched into tribal council. As they discussed the final vote, Sash lied in front of the jury, saying that he would have taken Fabio to the final three. Holly and Chase told the truth and said that they would not have taken him to the end. Jeff gave Sash a second chance to tell the jury the truth, yet Sash continued to maintain that he was the most committed to Fabio.
Fabio, Chase, and Sash realized that Holly had been the most honest and was the biggest threat in the final three, and ended up voting her out.
The Final Morning and Tribal Council
On the morning of day 39, the remaining Survivors were excited. There was a picnic waiting for them with orange juice, bread, jam, sausage, and more. After breakfast, they watched the birds flying along the beach. They burned the shelter, and marched to the final tribal council.
Chase started off the opening statements. "Bring on the questions!" he challenged the jury. Fabio said in his opening statement that they had had some good times. Sash said that they all outlasted the others, and that the friendships that he had formed were more important than being in the final three.
Brenda started the questions. She said that she enjoyed playing with Sash, but she was upset that Sash had backstabbed him. She was also upset that Chase had allowed her to be voted out. Sash tried to step in and throw Chase under the bus again.
Marty asked Chase if there was a "dumber than a bag of hammers" award, who would he choose? Chase refused to answer. Marty congratulated Fabio for making the final three.
Holly asked what Chase's biggest strategic move was; he responded that voting out Shannon was his biggest move, because Shannon couldn't be trusted. Holly asked Sash if he ever lied to her, and Sash responded that he had lied when he said that he would not vote her out.
Jane said that Sash was a "New York City river rat" and could go back to the hole where he came from. She asked Chase what he'd do with the money, and Chase said that he'd give $100,000 to charity, and take care of his mom. Fabio piped in that he'd take care of his mom too.
Benry didn't have anything to say to Chase, but congratulated Fabio. Benry said that Sash had a fake smile and he could see through him. Sash said that he voted Benry out because he didn't think that he'd go to the final three to him.
Dan thought Sash was a spineless, phony liar. He said that Chase was paranoid and let people down. "Beauty fades, dumb is forever," he informed Chase.
Purple Kelly wanted Sash to explain why he outwitted everybody else. Sash said that he got to the finals by creating many alliances. She appreciated his honesty.
Naonka said that Fabio was his hippy friend, and that he won immunity when it counted. She asked about Fabio's family, and he said that seeing his mom helped push him to the end. Fabio started choking up when he talked about his mom. Other people in the jury were put in tears too.
Alina said that she didn't want to give money to give money to a boy, but a man. Chase said that he was not wishy-washy when he voted, but that he was ready to switch alliances when it was done. Chase said that Fabio was too dumb to figure out who was voted out after tribal council.
Although the contestants had to wait several months to find out the winner, at home we found out right away who won. The final vote was close. Four people voted for Chase, and five people voted for Fabio, making him the winner of the 21st season of Survivor. He was the youngest winner ever. Sash received zero votes.
