Survivor Nicaragua Reunion

A Closer Look at the Contestants

Now that Judson, aka Fabio, had been announced as the winner, it was time to get to know the contestants better, and to announce what would happen in the next season of Survivor.

Before competing on Survivor, Judson had been a model as well as a student. When Jeff asked about what would happen the next day, Fabio said that his life would change. He planned on starting a production studio with his winnings.

Chase said that he had been flirting with Brenda at the beginning, but they were just good friends. Sash had been in an alliance with Brenda; on the night that he voted her out, Sash didn't give her the idol because she had thought about voting him out. Brenda said that she didn't scramble because she had held out hope that Sash would give her the idol. Jeff said that during casting, he had told Sash that he probably would be the first person to be voted out. He was wrong.

Chase said that being on Survivor hadn't really changed his life. His biggest passion was music, and being on Survivor wouldn't really change his chances of getting an album. Jeff said that he wanted to help him out; he brought out a guitar and let Chase sing on stage as they went to break.

The first few episodes of Survivor Nicaragua had revolved around Jimmy Johnson. Johnson said that Survivor was the toughest thing that he had ever done. Not having food, water, a soft bed, or good sleep was tough, especially at his age, 67 years old. Survivor was his favorite show, and he had wanted to get on the show a couple times before. A previous time that he had tried to apply for the show, the Survivor doctor called him to tell him that he had two blocked arteries. Jimmy Johnson lost weight, had stints put in his heart, and got healthy; he thought that Survivor had saved his life.

Holly lost her mind after Survivor began. She said that Dan's constant bragging about money got under her skin. She felt bad about destroying his shoes, so she bought him a pair of cowboy boots. When asked how much money she had, Dan said that he was alright, but he didn't want to mention specifics "because of the IRS". I don't blame him.

Jane was one of the most popular contestants on the show. People were impressed with her physical fitness and liked her personality. She started running and working out to compete, even swimming one or two miles a day. She learned how to build a fire; she practiced with flint and practiced making a fire using her glasses. Jane and Marty didn't really like each other on the show, and they weren't going to be friends after the show either.

Naonka was the big villain of the show. Naonka said that she acted like a fool, but didn't think that she was going to be a villain. Jeff pointed out that she had pushed someone with an artificial leg, Kelly S. Kelly said that she didn't want to be treated special because of her leg. Naonka was a teacher, and still had her job, but some of the parents were uncomfortable with her teaching their children. Jeff went into the audience to talk to her mother, Zenith. Her mom said that she's a little like Naonka (but the good side). She was surprised that her daughter went as far as she did, in terms of being a villain.

Jeff announced that from this point on, if someone quit, unless there was a medical problem or extenuating circumstances, CBS reserved the right to not allow them on the jury if they didn't want them. In a previous season of Survivor, CBS had allowed one of the quitters to join the jury. Because they had set a precedent, they had to allow Naonka and Kelly B. to be on the jury this time. For Survivor 22 and beyond, that will no longer be the case.

The Sprint player of the season was Jane, who won by a landslide. She won the $100,000 prize, which was about two year's salary for her.

Jeff said that he was going to give Shannon a chance to redeem himself. Even before Jeff asked the question, Shannon implied that he thought that Sash seemed gay, although he met his girlfriend earlier that day.

Jeff mentioned that there was another baby in the Survivor family. Carina Rose Mariano was Boston Rob and Amber's second baby. Amber had the baby 10 minutes after she arrived at the hospital, and didn't even have an IV before she pushed the baby out.

While in Africa, Jeff visited an Operation Smile operation. The auction for this season was going to benefit that organization.

For the next season, things were going to change. When a player was voted out, they wouldn't go immediately to a comfy bed and hot meal at the Ponderosa, they would be sent to Redemption Island. When another person was sent to Redemption Island, the two would duke it out, competing for the right to stay in the game. Eventually, whoever was left on the island at the end would return to the regular game.

Survivor Nicaragua was a season full of interesting characters with a surprising end. I'll be back in 2011 with Redemption Island recaps.

  • Fabio seemed just about as goofy and likeable at the reunion as he did during the show.
  • Jane was voted the Sprint Player of the Season by a landslide.
  • The next season would be Survivor: Redemption Island, where players could compete to come back.
Jimmy Johnson tried out for Survivor before: while going through the audition process, Survivor doctors discovered two blocked arteries. This prompted him to get healthy and lose weight, and might have saved his life.

Terry Bradshaw was clearly loaded. Watch him again and compare it to how he sounds and speaks during his job. Loaded!
