'Survivor: Redemption Island' Cast Revealed; Two Familiar Faces Aboard

Ryan Christopher DeVault
The Survivor: Redemption Island cast brings some familiarity to the table, with two of the most notorious cast members of the past season returning. Or maybe the correct word to use was infamous, because it is sure to create a lot of drama when Survivor returns with new episodes on CBS this winter.

So what it is it the Survivor: Redemption Island cast is going to bring to the table? Well, it has not yet been confirmed, as the show and CBS try to keep things like this under wraps, but we have been following the rumors on the show for quite some time. There is no guarantee that we have the information correct, but rumors had it that Boston Rob and Russell the oil man will return as the leaders of the two tribes. It has always sounded like something that could fill the season with a lot of drama, but we will have to wait and see if the rumor plays out.

Like Entertainment Weekly has stated, this also won't be the first time that former cast members would be brought back in this fashion. Stephenie LaGrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard of Survivor: Palau returned for the Guatemala season, with LaGrossa making it all the way to the final two. This new season could be something very similar to the way they did things there, but it might also be possible the two former players aren't eligible for the $1 million prize. We will have to get back to you on those facts, as CBS will announce them later this week.

As for the new Survivor: Redemption Island cast, there seems to be quite a few people in the mix who could turn into fan favorites, or, at the very least, the most recognizable names in the new group of contestants. Two former NFL players, a former Miss USA competitor, and an Iraq war veteran lead the way, but a fire department engineer could also find a lot of support as she begins her run at the big cash prize.

With the revelation of the new cast also comes the season premiere date, so we can all now set our calendars for when the first 2011 season of Survivor will take place.

The season premiere of Survivor: Redemption Island takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the now familiar 8 p.m. time slot. There will be 18 total castaways this season (counting the mystery two), and the cast is a very nice mix of competitors, it seems. Who will win the next $1 million prize? Take a look at the final cast list and see who you think might be the favorite.
