Survivor Russell Hantz Disappoints

Episode 11 Recap of "Jumping Ship"

Last Week on Survivor

Parvati one-upped Russell in the immunity idol department by giving away two immunity idols she had in her possession. JT's learned the hard way it was a mistake to give his immunity idol to Russell as it played an important part in getting him voted off last week.

Russell's Recruitment Plan

After the stunt Parvati pulled with the idols last week, everyone expected a big fight between Russell and Parvati. But Russell is surprisingly calm on the outside, but inside he has to be fuming. Russell is not used to not being in control and that is exactly why Parvati did what she did. She wants to get under Russell's skin and let him know that he is not totally in control. Instead of a big confrontation with Parvati, Russell, still not trusting Sandra, tries to recruit Candice over to the Villains alliance. So if Sandra does jump ship from the Villains Tribe, he already has a replacement lined up and the Villains still have the numbers.

Survivor Reward Challenge: Pacific Shuffle

The Pacific Shuffle is the Survivor version of shuffleboard. One at a time, players will slide a puck across the board trying to land on the big red X-marks-the-spot. The winning team wins a trip to the home of Robert Louis Stevenson where they will watch the film "Treasure Island."

The Yin-Yang Tribe is randomly divided into 3 teams; Rupert, Russell and Sandra; Candice, Jerri and Parvati; and Amanda, Colby and Danielle. In the last shot of the challenge, Colby wins the reward challenge for his threesome.

A Survivor Catfight over a Hidden Immunity Idol Clue

Amanda went to the reward challenge determined to find the clue to the hidden immunity idol, but it was Danielle that found it in the bowl of popcorn. Danielle is not sneaky about dropping the clue on the floor, Amanda sees it, snatches it up and the catfight is on! Danielle attacks Amanda and the wrestle to the floor while Colby lies on the bed in catatonic state ignoring the both of them. When they turn to him to ask, "Whose clue is it?" Colby responds that Danielle should have it. And just like that Amanda gives up the hidden immunity idol clue to a member of Villains Tribe. This should have went another way; at the very least Colby should have said the only fair thing to do is to read it put loud for all 3 to hear. You would think with Colby and Amanda being on the same side he would at least have showed some effort to back her up.

Russell Regains His Crown as Survivor Hidden Immunity Idol King

Back at the Yin-Yang camp, Danielle shares the clue with Russell and Jerri then she and Russell go off together in search of the idol. The clue states it is near a certain spot in the nearby stream so Russell searches one side while Danielle is on the other side searching. Russell turns over a rock to reveal the immunity idol and while Danielle's back is turned he pockets the idol. "They hid an immunity idol from me," Russell says, "I'm not letting them know about it." The only person Russell shows the idol to is Candice in hopes of it swaying her to his alliance.

See-Saw Alliances

Sandra explains to Colby it would be in her best interest to switch to the Heroes alliance; she's been on the outs with the Villains for some time now. But Russell lets Sandra in on the fact that he had recruited a Heroes Survivor over to the Villains side, thus making her vote with the Heroes not powerful enough to vote off a villain. It's a case of will she or will she?

Survivor Individual Immunity Challenge - House of Cards

In House of Cards, Survivors have to build a stack of cards 10 feet tall using 150 wooden tiles. The first Survivor to build their house 10 feet without toppling wins individual immunity. Jerri wins the battle just inches ahead of Russell and receives her first individual immunity ever.

Survivor Plans and More Plans

The editing is so good it's hard to tell who is telling the truth anymore. Sandra is flipping; Candice is flipping; we're writing down Amanda's name; we're writing down Russell's name; whoops, no, Russell found out we're gunning for him so write down Parvati's name instead.

The Survivor's Vote

Before Jeff reads the votes he offers anyone who has an immunity idol to play it. Russell stands and hands Jeff an idol saying, "This time I think I should play it for myself." But Russell's name is not written down once.

Russell, Parvati, Danielle, Jerri, Sandra, and Candice vote for Amanda.

Amanda, Colby and Rupert vote for Parvati.

So all that talk and Sandra takes the safe road still voting with the Villains for the second week in a row and Candice votes for Amanda to show her newfound loyalty to the Villains. Thus, Amanda is the 12th Survivor voted off and the fourth member of the Survivor Jury joining Coach, Courtney and JT at Ponderosa. (Read about Life at Ponderosa.)
