A storm at sea was starting to kick up. Erik said that the ocean was "angry and fickle". Another person wondered if there was a hurricane out there.
When treemail arrived, the note said that "some pay a fortune for what you will eat." It was time for the gross food challenge!
"What do you mean, like fish?" Dave remarked. I wonder if he has seen Survivor before. Dave is from Los Angeles, so it is possible that he was recruited by CBS, who has been known to recruit Survivors in the past.
At Foa Foa, Liz started hinting to her tribemates that Ashley might not have a strong enough stomach for the food challenge, planting the seeds of doubt in the other Survivors' heads. Russell H. thought Liz might be playing mind games, so he thought he should watch her, because he thought that he should be the only person playing mind games.
At the reward challenge, the Survivors were to drink Samoa Smoothies. The players would spin a wheel to choose the ingredients, and then Jeff would blend the concoction. The tribe that won the smoothie challenge would get to eat a nice barbecue, and send out a spy to the other tribe. The spy would not get to eat any of the barbecue.
The smoothie lineup was as follows:
Shambo vs Jaison - Survivors spun giant clam and Jeff's choice, which was octopus, sea snails, and Noni juice with a garnish of seaweed. Shambo drank it quickly, Jaison drank more slowly, but kept it down.
Russell H. vs Russell S. - The two Russells spun a jellyfish special with milk. Russell S had no problem. Russell H. finished slower.
Brett vs. Mick - Brett and Mick drank a smoothie of giant clam, sea cucumber, and milk. Although Mick finished first, Brett made a show of licking the glass afterwards.
Monica and Liz - Monica and Liz drank a sea urchin smoothie with a sea noodle garnish. Monica drank it first, Liz finished second.
Ashley and Dave - Ashley and Dave spun a sea slug gut smoothie, which Jeff mixed with water. Dave finished. Ashley almost finished the whole glass, but had to give up to throw up before finishing. Galu won the reward.
Russell S. sent Shambo over as the spy. Although Shambo protested, Russell was insistent. Russell commented to himself that she would "have to pay for that chicken."
After Shambo left for Foa Foa, she glowingly remarked that at Foa Foa, "there's no hidden agenda." The camera appropriately panned to Russell H. as she said that.
At Galu, Russell S. told the group why he sent Shambo to the other camp. "It really sucked when she lost our chicken." If it weren't for the fact that Shambo is fairly unpopular with everybody else in the tribe, I would say that he would be hurting himself by taking it upon himself to punish her.
Galu had to make fire in order to cook the food. Russell S. and Dave bickered a bit about setting the fire up. Dave was commenting about how easy it was to build a fire, while Russell struggled. To be fair, Dave did put the fire together quickly after he stopped complaining and started helping.
At Foa Foa, Shambo shared the clues to the hidden immunity idol. They looked in the tree where the immunity idol was, but couldn't find it. Some thought that Ben had it and it disappeared when he was voted out. When Liz confronted Russell H. about how she thought he had lied about the idol, he said "you're freaking me out right now." "Do you want to be the one to go next?" "You're walking on thin ice."
The storm that had tossed the waves so hard the previous day had arrived, and the rain was pouring. Dave had to walk through what looked like a river to get to treemail.
For the immunity challenge, Survivors had to throw coconuts into a net which was attached to a rope that hung over a log. One man and one woman from each tribe held onto one of these nets. As more coconuts were thrown into the net, it got heavier. When both Survivors of a tribe let go of their nets, the team would lose.
Galu's tribe members were able to throw more coconuts into Foa Foa's nets. Ashley wasn't able to get any coconuts into a net. Russell H. let go of his net first. Liz held on, and although Russell S. was struggling, she couldn't hang on any longer and let go, and Foa Foa would be going to tribal council.
Jaison remarked in confessional that he wanted to get out of the game, and that he was miserable. Russell H. was asking for volunteers to go home, but Jaison didn't speak up. The Survivors weren't able to secretly make plans because they were all stuck in the shelter.
Ashley thought Liz should go because she didn't trust her, while Liz thought Ashley should go because she was physically the weakest. Russell H. was bummed that he couldn't strategize because nobody could talk privately.
In a way, sitting by a fire under a roof at tribal council was a relief for Foa Foa, because they could get warm, even if they didn't like to have to vote anybody out. Jeff asked Foa Foa who they trusted, and Ashley commented that she trusted Natalie and Russell H. the most. Liz said that she trusted everyone. Russell H. said that he trusted everyone as well. It turns out that Ashley's trust in Natalie and Russell was misplaced, because they both voted her out. Russell voted for Ashley even though he knew that Liz was onto him and was a threat. On the other hand, Liz had put doubts in the other Survivor's heads about Ashley. Perhaps Russell doesn't control the tribe as much as he would like.
