Natalie found a rat as she was out taking a walk. She hit it over the head with a stick and killed it. The other Survivors were shocked that she had gone out, killed something, and drug it home. They cooked it over the fire and ate it.
For the reward challenge, the Survivors were divided up into two teams, purple and yellow. They drew randomly, and one person was left out. Natalie didn't get to participate in the challenge. She had to pick the team that she thought should win, and if they won, she would get to go on the reward. She chose the yellow team. The Survivors would run across a field, untie poles with black and white coconuts on them. The poles then would then be arranged to form numbers. One member of each team then had to find the numbers on a combination lock while blindfolded, using her sense of touch to find the combination.
The yellow team retrieved all of the poles first, but purple wasn't too far behind. The purple team arranged the poles correctly first, and Monica, who was blindfolded for the purple team, worked on finding the combination by touch. The yellow team found their combination while Monica was working, and Laura started to try to solve it, but Monica was too far ahead. Natalie had picked the yellow team, so she didn't get to go on the reward.
The reward was a trip to a natural rock slide with a picnic to go with it. The rock slide was quite long, and the Survivors had a lot of fun. They enjoyed the fresh water, and of course the food. Monica said that her family was from Puerto Rico, and it reminded her of home.
While on the reward challenge, the team discovered that there was another hidden immunity idol in play. They were not going to share the information with the other team members. Even though Russell was not at the reward, he suspected that there would be a hidden immunity idol out there, so he went to go look for it. He searched and searched and searched, and amazingly, he found the hidden immunity idol, without clues, for the second time in the season.
Russell showed Shambo the hidden immunity idol as soon as she got back from the reward challenge. She was shocked. Their plan was to have old Galu vote for Russell, while the old Foa Foa voted for Laura. Russell would play the hidden immunity idol, while the few votes for Laura would get her out. The only way that this plan wouldn't work would be if Laura won immunity.
In the immunity challenge, Survivors would use grappling hooks to grab two bags of puzzle pieces. Three Survivors would move on to the next stage, where they would solve a puzzle. Shambo got the first bag. Mick and Kelly were close behind. Three people would move on. Mick was the first person to get the second bag. Shambo was the second person to grab a bag. Russell and Laura grappled their second bags at the same time, but Russell lost his, and Laura would be the third person to move on.
Mick, Shambo, and Laura had to then solve a puzzle by putting pegs into a board. When they got a piece right, another one would drop. Laura was doing well in this part of the challenge, while the others were having trouble. She won immunity for the second night in a row, foiling Russell and Shambo's plans.
The old Galu tribe, minus Shambo, was talking about Russell, and about how he might have found a hidden immunity idol again. They thought that they might need to vote for Natalie, just in case Russell had an immunity idol. Russell heard part of this conversation, thinking that they wanted to vote for Natalie and not Russell. He was confused about whether he would need to play the immunity idol or not.
At tribal, Jeff asked if someone had found the hidden immunity idol, and Russell played his. Jaws dropped from all the former Galu members. Seven people had voted for Russell, and their votes were nullified. When three votes were read for Kelly, she was out of Survivor Samoa.
"He just stirred a whole lot of hell, that's what he did," Laura whispered to her old Galu tribemates. Episode 10 should be interesting. Another immunity idol will be hidden in the camp, and Russell seems to have a knack for finding them.
