Survivor South Pacific Episode 9

One Big Family

As Survivor South Pacific Episode 9 began, the cameras caught the tribes as they returned home after tribal council. Ozzy wanted to talk to Cochran alone. Brandon tried to insert himself into the conversation, making sure that his new ally was okay. Ozzy was upset, as were most of the other people in his former tribe. All of them, except Dawn, came up to him before they went to sleep to complain. Whitney told him "you disgust me." He was welcomed by the former members of Upolu though.

Survivor Challenge #1

The first immunity challenge was completed in two stages. For the first stage, the players had to toss coconuts into a ring; four players would move to the second round. Dawn, Whitney, Jim, and Sophie all tossed their coconuts into the ring first. In the second round, the competitors had to crack a coconut with a rock, take a mouthful of coconut water, go through an obstacle course, and spit the coconut water into a tube. The player who filled their tube up first would win immunity. Sophie and Jim were in the lead. Sophie nearly threw up on her last trip to put coconut water in her tube, which allowed Jim to take the win. There was no reward.

Eliminating the First Survivor

Ozzy knew that he was likely to be voted out. He told Coach that he didn't want to go, and Coach told him that he didn't want him to leave either. Coach told him that he'd probably come back; it was apparent that Coach wasn't going to try to spare him from the vote.

Jim came up with a strategy. He considered giving Ozzy the immunity necklace, and telling everybody to vote for Cochran, with the hope that Upolu wouldn't have the chance to discuss who they wanted to vote out.

During Tribal Council, Jim noted that in the past, they had saved Cochran from being voted out a few times. Brandon said that the tone of this tribal council had changed from the previous tribal council, and that the smaller people didn't have to take it anymore. Cochran said that his former tribemates had made him felt small by trying to vote him out just because he was weak. Jim mentioned that he was thinking about giving his necklace to Ozzy and telling everybody to vote out Cochran, and that voting him out would send a message to future Survivor players that turning on your tribe wouldn't be tolerated, but the former Upolu alliance wasn't buying it. Coach said that voting for Cochran would send a message that if you stood up for yourself, then you'd hurt yourself.

In the end, Jim decided that he'd keep the necklace after all. The former Upolu members plus Cochran all stuck together and voted out Ozzy. Dawn also voted for Ozzy.

On Redemption Island, Ozzy went fishing on the reef, and caught some really big fish. He and Keith ate well.

The Second Challenge

Back at camp, there was another challenge. To win immunity, the survivors had to stand on a narrow beam while holding an arc with a wooden ball fitted into a groove. If the ball wasn't balanced properly, it would roll off. Players who dropped the ball or fell off the beam would be out of the competition. Those that thought they were safe could choose to feast on pastries and iced coffee instead of competing. Jim, Dawn, and Whitney were the only three who chose to compete. The rest ate.

During the competition, Brandon and some of the other players were rooting for Dawn to hold on. She said that she'd hold on so that the others would have more time to eat. Jim fell off first. Dawn had a very good save, but Whitney ended up hanging in longer and winning immunity.

A Second Vote

Although most of the players wanted to vote for Jim, some thought that Dawn could be the bigger threat. Albert wasn't comfortable with the way that she was trying to weasel her way into his alliance. There was some discussion about voting her off first; otherwise, they would be voting for Jim.

During the second tribal council of the evening, Dawn said that she saw themselves as one tribe, and that she wouldn't have sat down to eat if she had been on the dominant tribe. Brandon took it the wrong way, and inferred that she was being hypocritical, as she had been telling them that she would hang on so they could eat during the competition. Dawn said that there must have been a misunderstanding and apologized; Brandon accepted her apology. Later on in tribal council, Whitney started crying, said that she felt like she had been vilified. Brandon felt bad that she was crying, and that he had nothing personal against her.

The Upolu alliance agreed that it was time to vote out Jim. The shrinking Savaii alliance voted for Edna, but they did not have enough votes to make a difference.
