Survivors benefits vs. disability benefits

Social Security is a government program that provides services to communities. The services provided are not just for the elderly. They there for everyone who qualifies for the specific program.

There are two types of benefits available through the Social Security program.

Survivor benefits are awarded to children whose parent is deceased. This can be awarded even if both parents are no longer alive. DNA testing and death certificates may be required for children of a deceased parent to be approved. Social Security can help a child who's in need. The survivors benefit isn't paid just to the child. It is also paid to the widow.

Disability benefits are awarded to those who are considered disabled. Medical reports are required to prove a disability. Children as young as 3 years old can receive disability benefits. The benefits are known as SSI, or Social Security income.

Survivor and disability benefits are not the same. They are both benefits through the Social Security program. They provide a steady income to needy families who qualify for the services. Each benefit is given monthly in a check form.

Social Security makes it easier to file for benefits and to make any changes to an existing account by doing it all on the Internet. The Internet will save you a trip down to your local office and a wait in long lines. Rules and guidelines are enforced to provide better service.

Whether you are receiving either benefit, it is best to be aware of everything they have to offer. Life isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be an income struggle when there are programs available to help, especially Social Security.

The Internet has made it easy to access the Social Security account on file. Changes can be made easily by the click of a mouse, which is a great option. This method can save you time by not having to wait in long lines at your local office. www.ssa.gov is the website to visit. There you will find answers to any questions you may have regarding benefits.

You should check out the website to see if you qualify for other services, especially if you are receiving either disability or survivor benefits. Just remember, Social Security is no longer for the elderly. It is for people of all ages who meet the requirements.
