Susan Boyle - Britain's Got Talent 'Wake-Up-Call' Inspiration

When Susan Boyle, a 47-year old unemployed woman from Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland stepped out on stage for the first time on Britain's Got Talent TV show aired last weekend April 11, 2009, no one was prepared when she began to sing I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables.

With that spunky determined courage, Susan Boyle stood up to a massive audience of patronizing cynical judgments and quickly silenced the unbelievers.

After 'wowing' not only the audience but judges with her sensational voice, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden said, "I am so thrilled because I know that everybody was against you...I honestly think that we were being all cynical and I think that's the biggest wake-up call ever..and I just want to say it was a complete privilege listening to that..."

Susan Boyle has certainly challenged the stereotype thinking which has grown in our societies that if you can't be rich, young and physically beautiful you'll never amount much to anything. She proved, without a doubt, that such stereo-typing is a mundane expectation that too many of us depend upon, which unrealistically spirals towards a wayward perspective and faulty confidence about our achievements. True worth of self isn't about 'all image'.

"Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances," she said.

"There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example."

And 'an example' is what 'Susan Boyle' most certainly emerged as.

There will always be 'hecklers' and pessimists to carry on their tradition of demoralization and biased judgments in our world of today, but the world needed a 'Susan Boyle' to come through and glow a shining example that humanity doesn't have to grow in such a way, and that anything is possible to do with the right mixture of optimism, courage and unpretentious behavior.

Boyle spoke of living with her cat, Pebbles, and admitted 'having never been kissed'. She also shared to Britain's show hosts of her late mother, who had lived with her until her death two years ago, which encouraged her to compete on the show.

As she stated, "You have to take yourself seriously, so what I did was concentrate on the song." She added, "I wanted to make this a tribute to my mother. I knew this was something I had to do."

Still, despite the dark narrow mindedness that seeks to take precedence with commentators searching every skeptical angle, Susan Boyle has left a permanent 'inspirational impression' on those who have seen and experienced her 'live' and of the many YouTube fans growing in numbers.

What's next in line for Susan Boyle? Time will tell. The song itself - a symbolical rendition - synchronized nicely to the realization that one can make dreams come true, and not just remain in them.
