Susan won a CMA Award for writing " Wide Open Spaces ." This new album was released on the one-year anniversary of her car accident last year that left Susan with broken arm, dislocated elbow and a shattered wrist. Doctors told her it would be 8 or 9 months before she could strum a guitar again. She was back out on the road playing to audiences in a mere 2 1/2 months. With that experience comes knowledge and growth, Susan has experienced growth as an artist and refined her thoughtful lyrics. Valentine's day is an occasion set aside for the celebration of bonds in established relationships. However, this Valentine's day, the Country music scene has been blessed with the release of Tightrope , this will provide you with the opportunity to establish and build new musical connections. What listeners will notice about the content on this CD is the inspirational lyrics focused on change and getting the best possible experience from life. While many Country albums take an approach that focuses on following the heart to find love, Gibson focuses on finding empowerment while progressing through painful situations. The track Evergreen is the perfect song for anyone looking to survive a difficult breakup. There is positive in every situation, this track does an amazing job of showing the light through difficult times in life.
However, the track titled A stray take a more traditional approach to singing about love. This song talks about finding love in a strange place and fighting for that love despite lacking the power to change the other person. The unique aspect of this track is the use of personification, this can make the track come off as if it is about a pet found on the street. However, the witty lyrics are actually meant to discuss the tendency to hold onto love until it slips through your fingers. While this is something everyone goes through, there are very few artists that could pen lyrics so eloquent. The best song on this CD is titled The Wood Wouldn't Burn, a track about an old guitar and the gift of music. Another enjoyable piece of this CD is titled Happy With Nothing , a track about the pursuit of happiness and the struggle to feel content in life. The concept behind this song is simple, everything you have in life comes with positives and negatives. As such, you are best off being content with your situation in life. I would rate Tightrope 4/5, the lyrics are insightful and inspirational. Very few musicians have the ability to write their own music, Susan delivers some of the best Country music I have heard in years. Fans will enjoy the simple production on this album, the bare-bones approach gives off the feeling of an acoustic performance. Adding this album to your collection would be well worth your time, providing you are in the market for music with meaningful lyrics. Susan can be found on Myspace,Facebook and her official website.
