Susan Jackson Wins All-Around and Individual Beam Title at 2010 NCAA Gymnastics National Championships
Jackson has had a stellar career at LSU. Jackson's win at the nationals also gave her the 11th all-around title won during the 2010 season, which also broke a school record.
Jackson also competed in the individual competitions held on the beam, vault and bars. Jackson won the individual title on the balance beam with a score of 9.9625 and came in second place on the vault with a 9.8938, which she won during her sophomore year at LSU. Jackson scored a 9.9250 on bars, enough for a fourth place finish.
Jackson's win on the beam makes her the third athlete from LSU to hold the national title. Previously April Burkholder won the event in 2006 and Jeanie Beadle in 1977.
Fellow teammates also did well in the individual competition. Summer Hubbard tied for second place on the bars and Ashley Lea tied for a ninth place finish on bars. The trio earned First-Team All-American honors. Samantha Engle, who tied for seventh place in the individual uneven bars competition made Second-Team All-American honors.
The LSU gymnastics team fell short of making the Super Six Thursday night when they had to count a fall on the balance beam and also one on the floor. LSU entered the meet as the ninth seed and finished in sixth place with a total of 196.025. Only the top three teams advance to the finals. UCLA, Utah and Oklahoma all advanced to the Super Six finals.
