Susan Powell is Still Missing: Husband Josh Powell Claims He Took Children Camping at 12:30 A.M

Susan Powell, age 28, of West Valley City, Utah, is missing. She is a stock broker at Wells Fargo. She was last seen by anyone outside of her family on December 6, 2009 according to MSNBC.

Description of Susan Powell

According to the Baltimore Sun, Susan Powell is "5-foot-3 inches tall and about 130 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes."

Why Was a Carpet Wet in the Powell Home?

When police entered the home to investigate reports that Susan had not arrived at work they found several fans surrounding a wet area on the carpet of the living room according to MSNBC.

Is that wet area an ominous sign that a murder may have occurred in the home of Susan Powell? Susan's cell phone and purse were found in the home. Her car was outside. Susan did not appear to have planned to leave the home. It is the rare woman who leaves the house without her cell phone and her purse. Was Susan Powell murdered at home? Detectives are investigating this grim possibility.

Josh Powell Takes Children Camping in the Middle of Night

Susan's husband, Josh Powell, informed police that he took his children, ages 4 and 2, camping to the desert in Tooele County at 12:30 a.m. on December 6^th. He claims Susan was ill and could not join the trip. He claims that he does not have any information about her whereabouts now.

This raises several questions. Why would someone take very young children out of the home at 12:30 a.m. when temperatures were below freezing to depart on a camping trip? Traveling at that hour of the night with young children seems unwise. Also, most husbands would not leave a wife who was ill alone and go off on a vacation.

Police claim that Josh Powell is not a suspect in this crime. That seems unlikely given the odd circumstances of her disappearance and the wet area on the carpet. A criminal profiler, Pat Brown, stated that "Josh Powell is probably the only suspect in the disappearance, even though police continue to say he is not the focus of the investigation" according to Today.

The police have spoken with the eldest child of the Powells, Charlie, age 4.

And Susan's father continues to speak out about her disappearance. Charles Cox told KOMO, "I don't think she's OK, no one has heard from her."

Josh Powell Obtains a Lawyer

Mr. Powell has now obtained a lawyer, even though he has not actually been named a suspect in the possible murder of Susan Powell. That certainly raises a warning flag too.
