Susan Tedeschi in Concert: A Must-See-Live Artist

S. J. Butler
Even after two Grammy nominations, a gold record, and more accolades, Susan Tedeschi still seems humbly surprised when the audience goes wild at a live performance. We all know that Susan is a great studio-recording artist, but she is also one of the best live performers around today.

Don't expect to hear songs from her albums replayed as is; instead get ready for original variations, solos and improvisation at her concert that mark the sign of a truly great live performing artist. Fans of her albums may be surprised at her small size because of her larger than life voice. During a song, Susan and her band seem at times to tune the audience out as if they are playing their hearts out just for themselves, and yet, between songs, they are engaging and personal with the audience.

Often compared to Bonnie Raitt, Susan is anything but a copy of anyone else; she is a true original with an incomparable voice. You simply must hear her live to believe it. Susan's "You Got the Silver,' is a totally different song that that originally released by the Rolling Stones. The subtle pauses in "Sweet Forgiveness" offer sweet anticipation of the next phrase. "Lord Protect My Child" is sung so personally heartfelt that you feel you are glimpsing into her very soul.

After eight albums including "Hope and Desire," Susan proves in the studio and in concert that she is not to be pigeonholed in any one genre. Originally known as a blues artist, Susan performs rock, gospel, and more equally well. All in all, a complete artist who has proven to be one who will be around with loyal fans for a long, long time.
