Game Background
A cat sees another cat that he likes in a store that has an automatic sliding door. However, the cat is too light to activate the weight-activated sliding door and decides to gain weight by eating sushi so he can enter the store and meet the cat of his dreams.
Gameplay
The objective of Sushi Cat is to guide the sushi-eating cat to eat as much sushi as possible.
At the beginning of each stage, you will be given a target amount of sushi to eat. To eat sushi, simply drop the cat down one of the columns of sushi. The gameplay is very similar to Japanese gambling pachinko machines. At the bottom of the column will be a basket with a value on it that indicates the value of getting the cat into that basket. You have five tries to eat the target amount of sushi. Any leftovers will be counted as bonus sushi.
At the end of each stage, you will be presented with a report detailing to you your progress and performance. You will be shown a sushi score, a bonus sushi score from having leftover sushi, as well as other bonuses like achieving Heavy Cat status or eating all of the sushi on the screen. You will finally be shown your Total Score.
On the right side of the screen, you can see a rotating conveyor belt that shows which types of sushi are left on the screen for your cat to eat. Below that is the level number that you are playing. Below that, you can reset the level, toggle sounds, and toggle the quality of the game. At the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you can return to the stage selection screen.
The left hand side of the screen indicates the sushi that the cat has already eaten. At the top left hand corner of the screen is the number of cats you have left to drop.
The bottom of the screen indicates your sushi score. Try to score as high as you can. Get through all of the levels to get the cat to meet his new partner.
Game Review
Sushi Cat is a moderately entertaining puzzle experience that does not require too much exertion, which makes it ideal for those just looking to pass some time or on a short break. The storyline is also a creative touch and adds to the game's appeal.
Sushi Cat scores a 7/10 for its mild level of entertainment.
