Sushi Moto Grill & Chinese in Dahlonega, Georgia

Great Sushi

Karen Francis
Those of you who know me, know that I am a serious sushi lover. I began eating Sushi over 15 years ago. I recall the first time my husband asked me to try Sushi; I was a little reluctant, since he was dangling a piece of raw eel in front of me. It wasn't so much that it was raw, but the fact of the matter was, I was carrying an eel skinned handbag, so it seemed a little strange. However, once I tried it, I was pleasantly surprised that the taste was wonderful. There began my journey with Sushi.

Since I have been in Atlanta, there have been some hits and misses when it comes to Sushi. Some Sushi establishments claim they have the best new roll around and then when you try it, it's a big letdown. I recently came across a new Sushi restaurant in Dahlonega, Georgia called Sushi Moto Grill & Chinese. The décor is very lovely as they have splashes of red and black everywhere and a friendly little decorative cat that welcomes you in to the establishment.

When you walk in the door on the left there is a Sushi bar where the Sushi chef prepares your meal right before your eyes. There is a flat screen television that hangs above so you can enjoy some entertainment while you wait for your Sushi to be prepared. Although, Sushi Moto Grill & Chinese serves some traditional Chinese cuisine such has fried rice, orange chicken and vegetable delight, I really turned my attention to the Sushi. They have wonderful Sushi names such as Legally Blonde, Sex and the City, Batman, Bumble Bee and Spiderman just to name a few.

I tried several Sushi rolls and I must say I was instantly impressed. I started off with Lobster Chili Mayo and Shrimp Chili Mayo. These appetizers were delicious! The Lobster and Shrimp meat was so tender and taken out of the shell and cooked to perfection and topped with spicy chili mayo sauce. It was just the right amount of heat and they did not skimp on the Lobster and Shrimp. Although these were appetizers, they were hearty enough to eat as a meal. Next up it was Sex and the City which is Spicy tuna with mango and avocado. This roll was appropriately named because it's hot and spicy just like the ladies of Sex and the City.

The next roll we tried was called Uncle Bingo. I am not sure why it's called that, but the taste and presentation were wonderful. This Sushi dish is made with spicy scallops, crab and shrimp and the flavor just explodes in your mouth. Uncle Bingo is positioned on the platter to look like art. Although, my mouth was very happy at this point, the final roll would have to be my favorite. It was the Firecracker and it's made with spicy tuna, asparagus and topped with spicy crab. My goodness, this roll was truly a feast for your taste buds. Loved it! I left Sushi Moto Grill and Chinese full a smile on my face and a full belly.

Sushi Moto Grill and Chinese is located at 1850 South Chestatee Street in Dahlonega, Georgia (under the Yahoola Creek Grill). They are opened from Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. They are closed on Sundays. Bottom-line: Excellent Sushi and Chinese cuisine. Price point for lunch $4.00 to $10.00 and for dinner $6.00 to $20.00. Great family atmosphere.
