It was my daughter's 37th birthday or her 7th 30th birthday as she likes to say. Her favorite restaurant is Sushi Yama. We met her there for her special day . We were a party of 6. My daughter, Son in law, two grand sons and Hubby and I. We were seated immediately. This is a large restaurant. You can sit in booths or at regular tables. Most of the tables have a very soothing view of fish tanks with lovely Koi, some shark like fish and other interesting underwater residents. This is very entertaining for the kids and I love it also.
The restaurant is in a large shopping center with easy parking. It is wheelchair accessible. There is seating outside if you have to wait for a seat. We were there on a Sunday night so we had literally, no wait at all. We were given warm towels to wash our hands with as soon as we sat down.
The menu is enormous. There are pages and pages of Sushi, Sushi Combo dinners, Tempura, Yakimono, Katsu, Sukiyaki, Sashimi Combo Dinners, Temaki, Super rolls, Soups, Appetizers, Noodles, Maki Mono Rolls (seaweed wrapped rolls) and 26 Exotic Specials. The selection is really stunning. You need a field guide to get you through it if you don't know Sushi. Luckily, my son in law has traveled to the Far East and knows exactly what all these wonderful items are. The waitresses will be glad to give you that information as well but their English, though understandable, is a bit limited.
They offer Bento boxes which is what the boys got. They were absolutley stunning. These are maroon platters divided into sections. They held white rice, battered chicken cut up, vegetables, some Kale, an orange cut into a decorative design with a Marachino cherry speared on top and each item was in it's own little section. Sushi Yama also offers Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki, Shrimp Katsu or Teriyaki, Shrimp or Chicken Tempura or a Sushi Combo on their children's menu. These run $6.95 to $8.50.
We all had the Miso soup, it was wonderful and had bits of seaweed, tofu and scallions in it. This is only $1.75 There are other soups available, 8 others running as much as $6.50.
Lobster Bomb which is lobster tail tempura, avocado, cucumber, lettuce and rice with special sauce runs only $20.00. The most expensive meal is a boat for $118.00 but this feeds 5 people . The presentation is exquisite, the people seated near us ordered one of these. Of course, you can probably run up a really large bill if you order many separate items.
I had a fish in a very sweet Miso sauce. My son in law ordered it for me knowing I like fish but fish in a sweet sauce really wasn't for me It was a beautiful thick piece of white fish and it was served with Asparagus so the issue wasnt' the food it was my preferences.
From Wednesday until Saturday they serve a late dinner until 2:00 a.m.
Everyone's food was presented beautifully. We had a wonderful, attentive waitress. The meal was served quickly with great attention to detail. I highly recommend Sushi Yama if you're a Sushi fan.
