In a disturbing turn of events, authorities in Dunklin County, Mo., have a suspect in custody in connection with the disappearance of 3-year-old Breeann Rodriguez. According to a local news report, an unnamed man from the local area around Senath is in custody in the Dunklin County Justice Center but has not yet been formally charged with a crime.
Reportedly, the suspect was taken into custody and authorities are currently searching for the little girl's body and her bicycle in an unnamed location within the county. Authorities are not releasing the name of the man who is in custody and it is not known what information he has given them and very few details have been released about this change in the case. They have stated that the suspect is not related to the Rodriguez family.
Searchers found two training wheels and a third piece of potential evidence earlier in the week about two miles from the little girl's home and felt they were connected to her disappearance. A third piece of evidence was also found but authorities have released no information about that item, other than saying it was not clothing and it was not the pink bike Breeann was riding. Breeann was last seen around noon last Saturday, riding her bicycle in front of her home. Authorities and volunteers have searched the areas around her Senath, Missouri home hoping to find some clue as to her whereabouts.
Sadly, today's unexpected news about a suspect in custody and a search for a body in a specific area does not appear to mean good news is forthcoming. Authorities have said they are no longer interested in tips about a white van seen in the area days before the child's disappearance. How this suspect came to be found and whether the training wheels and the other undisclosed piece of evidence led to this person has not yet been released by authorities.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation quickly became involved with the case and a $45,000 reward was offered for information about the little girl's disappearance. In a small town like Senath--with a population of about 1,600--such an event is unthinkable. Regardless of the where, how and why, it is heartbreaking to know of a child in danger and it is certain that all who have been following this case feel great empathy for Breeann's parents as they await news of their daughter.
