The suspicious vehicle in Madison Square Garden Times Square was a dark green SUV Pathfinder and its contents could have caused serious damage and possible deaths. A street vendor notified a mounted police officer when he noticed smoke coming from the parked vehicle, the officer approached the SUV to investigate. Early reports said the contents were some containers, black powder, and what appeared to be a time devise. It has been confirmed that the contents of the abandoned SUV were deadly.
Plastic cans filled with gas, 3 propane tanks, 2 alarm clocks, wires, gun box with bags of some sort of granular material, and M-88 firecrackers. Thankfully, this vehicle was spotted when it was and the vendor took action and the police and fire departments acted quickly.
Chief of Police, Raymond Kelly, opined that the loaded SUV would have caused casualties had it detonated. The man that was seen leaving the deadly vehicle is said to be in his 40s and he peered over a shoulder to look back at the SUV as he walked away; he was seen taking off a dark shirt, and was wearing a red shirt.
Anyone who saw this man in the SUV, get out of the vehicle, walk away or at anytime should contact the authorities immediately. Anytime you see something that is suspicious you should take the advice of the man, Lance, who is now considered a hero, "See something, say something."
The area was closed down since Saturday evening about 6:30 until early Sunday morning, and it seems things are back to normal in Times Square. Tourists are enjoying their visit to New York and street vendors are back to doing their usual business.
Meanwhile, the NY Police are actively searching for the suspect in this case. Thanks to a fearless citizen, Lance and a fast-acting officer, Wayne Rhatigan, many a lives were saved last night in NY. Lance, the mounted police officer, the NY Police department, and everyone else who was involved in making sure this suspect was not successful at causing harm are all heroes.
