Sustainable Career: Find Your Sweet Spot Career

We may have a good career, but during the economic crisis, nobody can guarantee that your job will remain safe until your retirement time. What will we do if we lose our job? How can we get income to feed our family? We may have a lot of savings, but in most cases, it will not be enough to support our family until the children become independent and we enter retirement time. If you are facing job loss, do not feel frustrated and hopeless because there are things that we can prepare to have a sustainable career.

I was inspired by one chapter from a book named "Careers Unplugged" by Meena Thuraisingham. This chapter was talking about the sweet spot of your career. The book explains that a sweet spot of your career is when your competence and passionate combined together. When both of them combined, you have a good potential to have an extraordinary career. The book also gives samples of famous people who turned their careers to their sweet spot careers. However, I have another opinion. I believe we can use our sweet spot careers as secondary careers which will bring an alternative income for us. Moreover, we can use them when we lose our main job or become our main careers after we retire.

We can dig what is our passion or hobby. It can be your hobby when you were young age or the hobby that you still do recently. There are many hobbies such as music, writing, pet, painting, driving, photography, collecting stamps/art/money etc., sport, and many others. From hobby it can be turned to a serious career.

Here are examples of some hobbies that can be turned as your sweet spot career;

• From cooking hobby you can try to sell your cake or cookies to friends or shop cake or cafe. Some café such as starbuck café has supplier for their cakes selection. One day when you have your own budget, you can open your own café or cake shop.
• Photography can be turned to professional photography. You can send your artistic photos to magazine and you can earn some income
• From pet hobby you may open pet shop or any a shop selling pet food and books about animal. Another business in regards of pet hobby is opening pet salon.
• From Book/art collector hobby; you can sell your valuable books or art and it will be an extraordinary income. You can open art/book shop too.
• From Sport hobby; you can be a trainer, teacher or open sport shop
• Music hobby can be turned to musician or music teacher or open music shop.
• From writing hobby you can start become a writer by writing in Associated Content website. I like so much poetry and writing when I was kid. One of my short stories published in teenager magazine and I was very proud that time. Time passed quickly consumed the majority time in professional career until I found Associated Content website where I try to exercise my writing skill more often. I started to write simple story from my daily life and after few months I feel enjoyment when writing new articles. I really hope that my writing hobby will be my sweet spot career in the future.

We should teach our children since the beginning to understand their hobbies and giving opportunities to our children by guiding them to the right direction. It will help them when they grow up and face numerous problems that the world presents.

Last word, we have to dare to dream and spare our busy time to make it happen. Never say too late as you can start to think since now to make your sweet spot career become reality then from a sweet spot career become a sustainable career. Have a try!
