SUVs: Are They Worth It?

Many people drive SUVs these days. And even with high gas prices, some people still prefer to drive their SUVs. But is it really worth it to drive an SUV? In this article, I will discuss whether or not SUVs really are worth it.

More Room -

People buy SUVs for a variety of reasons, but one of the main reasons is because of the extra room that SUVs provide. You can store all sorts of stuff in an SUV. Going camping? No problem. Just put all the camping supplies you need in your SUV and take off. And there will still be plenty of room for your family. In fact, you might have room to spare with an SUV(depending on the model).

Gain Respect -

Most SUVs are fairly large in there size, which gives you an advantage when you're driving. Most people will be less respectful if they see a tiny car barreling towards them. However, if you're driving a large SUV then people are much more likely to get out of your way. Fewer people will cut you off, and you can force your way into traffic if you have to.

Terrible Gas Mileage -

Unfortunately, SUVs usually have a terrible gas mileage. It may not have been considered terrible a couple of years ago thanks to cheap gas, but these days the gas mileage is becoming more and more important. If your SUV gets fifteen to twenty miles per gallon then you are considered to have poor gas mileage.

You will basically pay forty dollars or more for a full tank of gas. So unless you're rich, this is going to become a real problem. Of course, some SUVs can have over twenty five miles per gallon. So do your research if you want an SUV with good gas mileage.

Rollover Risk -

As many of you know, the rollover risk is much higher with an SUV. This is especially true if it's raining. Rain makes your tires slip even more, especially if it has just started raining. All of the oil and other substances on the roads will merge with the rain, which will make the streets even slicker then if it had been raining for a long time. So don't slam on your brakes, and don't hit the gas pedal too hard. It's far too dangerous.

So are SUVs really worth it? Well, it depends on your lifestyle. If money is not an object then you may enjoy owning an SUV, but if you're not rich then you should probably look into buying a smaller car or a hybrid. And don't forget about the rollover risk.
