That is what Suzanne Barrett Justis says about her life's work. Suzanne specializes in animal art, such as wildlife and pet portraiture. She has a degree in Animal Science, which she also feels helps her with the wildlife art that she does. In fact, she is renowned throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for her exquisite landscapes of the area, her realistic animal art and wildlife paintings, and her expressive pet portraits. By working primarily with oils, Suzanne is able to capture the essence of the subject with an uncanny accuracy. In addition, her degree, along with the work she has done with animals, gives her the unique ability to understand the nuances of different breeds of dogs and other animals. She then proceeds to transfer these nuances to the canvas, producing a painting that captures the eye and the heart of the beholder.
Recently, Suzanne has begun to do children's portraits, as well. Once again, she is able to capture the playfulness of the child and, also, their soulful expressions by employing her artist's eye and seeing beyond just the surface qualities of her subject but also into what lies beneath. The result is a portrait that is at once realistic yet also illustrates the hopes and dreams inherent to childhood.
In 2007, Suzanne opened Suzanne Justis Fine Art Studio and Gallery in Downtown Kingsport, Tennessee. She feels this gallery affords her the perfect opportunity to display her work for the public and to offer them the chance to own original artwork. When Suzanne is not in the studio, however, she can be found on-site painting murals, which really keeps her busy, yet still feeling blessed.
Suzanne also does a lot of commissioned work, especially during the holiday season as people seek to find unique and personal gifts for the special people in their lives. She is available to consult with you in your home or office in order to create a customized work. Suzanne says, "I think most folk might be surprised to find that original artwork is a lot more affordable than they might think." Her artwork is available in a wide range of prices, with almost everyone being able to find an original piece of art at a price they can afford. She also has a variety of prints available, including her newest "Allandale Mansion" print. The proceeds from the sale of this print go to the Friends of Allandale, a group devoted to helping to maintain the historic integrity of the mansion.
