The leg openings are highly adjustable to especially accommodate both slim and chubby tighed babies. Separate waist and thigh settings allow you to adjust each opening independently to ensure a snug fit. (Swaddlebees) They come in a wide range of sizes and there is surely one that will have a perfect fit on your little one.
I personally have searched high and low for a great trim fitting diaper for my son. With so many diaper companies out there you do not know which ones to try. I purchased a Swaddlebees brand pocket diaper and was highly impressed with the quality and diaper over all.
I personally think these pocket diapers work great for average to light wetter. For heavy wetter or for overnight a pocket with more room thru the crotch means you can stuff more absorbency into them. But for a daytime trim under the clothes pocket diaper, Swaddlebees can't be beat! Swaddlebees even fit great under jeans, which you can not say about many other brands of pocket diapers. The brand works great on my guy and he is truly a little pee machine.
When I first received my Swaddlebees brand diaper in the mail I was immediately hooked on its efficient design. The outer layer is made of waterproof PUL - or polyurethane - and inside is a layer of microfleece. The fleece inside the diaper is thicker then other brands and does not pile as much wash after wash. I had problems with my Fuzzi Bunz' and the fleece inside those diapers getting small holes in them after I washed them about 100 times but, with the Swaddlebees the fleece is nice and thick and no issues with holes.
At the top of the back of the diaper is a slit, into which a fabric insert or "soaker" may be placed to catch urine. This way, you can remove the soaker from the diaper and wash it separately from the diaper, reaching optimal cleanliness. I did have a little trouble finding a insert that fit well inside the Swaddlebees brand of diapers because of the trim design of the diaper. My normal mircofiber inserts from Cotton Babies were much too wide to fit into the pocket. I found myself having to buy inserts directly from Swaddlebees or using my inserts from my Green Acre Design diapers. I also found that folding a mircofiber towel from the auto department at Wal-Mart worked great as an insert inside my Swaddlebees.
The best part of the diaper is its amazing closure system - a series of adjustable snap-buttons, making it easy to fine-tune the sizing to your child's specific needs. Swaddlebees were also ideal for my son's body - he is a skinny child, weighing in at just 20 pounds at 18 months of age. The snaps are on the side of the diaper and are easy to adjust as he grows. Best of all he is still in a medium size diaper with room to grow! The diapers have they have lots of nice stretch elastic so they stretch to fit even the chunkiest of children. Swaddlebees fit for a long time and can even be passed down from child to child if kept in good condition.
Some people have found that Swaddlebees run smaller in size then other cloth diapers. I have personally found this fact to be true. My son fits a Swaddlebees brand diaper on the second set of snaps at 18 months and 20 pounds. Where in his Fuzzi Bunz Medium size diapers he is on the lowest set of snaps and I have to cross over the top snaps around his waist for a proper fit on his skinny built body. The Swaddlebees also have a lower rise and I found that they sit lower on my son's stomach then that of another brand of diaper.
A lot of people mention they do not like Swaddlebees due to leaks. I personally have never had a leak in my Swaddlebees brand diapers. My son has even gone 5 hours during the day in a Swaddlebees when my darling husband forgot to change him while I was out. I have had one cause of a blow out in a Swaddlebees brand diaper though. Because they are trimmer in the crotch my child's exploding poop leaked out the sides. Yet, I have had this only happen once, and my son was very ill at the time. My son has not had a solid bowel movement in months due to a health condition and we haven't had any more issues with our Swaddlebees not holding his loose stools inside.
Swaddlebees brand pocket diapers come in a various amount of colors. They just recently came out with a new line of print diapers, yet do not have that many prints to choose from yet and the prints are kind of girly for a boy. Swaddlebees also can come in a Velcro closing style of pocket diaper. Swaddlebees also makes fitted diapers, Organic Velour Pocket Fitted diapers, All in One Diapers and Hemp pocket diapers.
Swaddlebees Pul Pockets are easy to clean. Simply shake off any solid substances on your diapers. I found that more solid poops fall off of Swaddlebees better then any other brand of cloth diaper I have tried. I love how easily the poop seemed to roll off the diaper, no harsh scrapping like other brands.
On wash day, run the dirty diapers in a cold soak or prewash as you would any cloth diaper. If you have already soaked your diapers in a pail (this is not recommended due to the bacteria that may grow in dirty water sitting over a period of time) , spin out any remaining dirty water. Wash your diapers in HOT water with a moderate amount of detergent (1/4 - 1/2 of the recommended dose). The detergent you use should be as plain as possible. Those containing fragrances, enzymes, fabric softeners, bleach or other whiteners are not recommended. These can weaken your diapers, cause them to repel, coat them resulting in repelling and easily build-up which leads to diaper rashes and stink issues. Some good detergents are: Charlie's Soap, Allen's Soap, and Tide Free. An extra rinse is helpful in getting some extra soap out. Small amounts of vinegar and/or baking soda may be useful if you are having issues with urine smelling diapers or they aren't getting clean enough. If you use too much detergent it may cause build up on your diapers , which is the single most common cause of leaking problems. An additional rinse can be used for particularly soiled loads. Make sure that your diapers are rinsed clean. Any residue from poop, urine, detergent or vinegar can make your diapers smell nasty. Do not use fabric softener on your diapers. Fabric softener will coat the diapers making them water repellent and will cause leaks!
Swaddlebees can go straight into the dryer and will take one to two cycles to become completely dry. Tumble-dry them on HOT, new information says this is actually good for the PUL. PUL was invented for the medical industry and is meant to hold up to the really high temperatures of the sterilization process used in the medical industry. Once dry let your diapers cool off before you stuff them. If you stuff the diapers while they are still warm it can cause the elastic to break.
Be aware that if you use dryer sheets in your dryer for other laundry this can coat your dryer and transfer to your diapers. If you encounter leaks, try line drying your diapers instead. If you have an outside clothesline and it's a sunny day this is an even more economical way to get your diaper dry, it may never remove light stains you have on your diapers.
Don't use any bleach products on Swaddlebees brand diapers, bleach is a strong chemical and will break down the fibers in the diapers. Bleach may also be very harsh on your child's tush and is a major no no for children with sensitive skin issues. To remove stains, hang or lay your diapers in the sun, it works wonders! Or put a few drops of lemon juice on the stains and then sun them. Or for a quick stain fix, a drop or two of hydrogen peroxide is a safe and easy stain remover. Don't use fabric softener. It will coat the diapers making them water repellent and will cause leaks! Be aware that if you use dryer sheets in your dryer for other laundry this can coat your dryer and transfer to your diapers. Then you have the issue with stripping your diapers till they are free of the coat of softeners.
Swaddlebees, while pricey, are far more affordable than disposable diapers in the long run. If well cared for - which is easy - they can last through several children. I am using some Swaddlebees that were purchased when I had my first child and I am now on my second. If paying $15 for a diaper sounds ridiculous to you, like it does to me, there is a great number of websites through which cloth diapering moms buy, sell, and trade secondhand diapers, such as DiaperSwappers.com, Diaper traders or Diaperpin.com. Some sites now even sell Swaddlebees at discount prices. You can find them for $13 dollars or less. The older style of Swaddlebees can be found rarely going for $10.95 on some sites! Both the newer and older styles work great! Swaddlebees are harder to find now and you may need to do some searching, but they are worth the extra time!
Overall, I was glad to have given Swaddlebees a try. They are one of the diapers that I grab for first throughout the day. They look great under my child's clothing and fit well even on his extremely skinny body. I give them 5 stars! Not only to they fit great, they last a long time and are overall great pocket diapers to have in my stash! I am currently even searching for more to add as my child gets bigger!
