Swap-bot: A New Way to Find Pen Pals and Do Swaps

Sonya Roberts
Swap-bot was created in 2005 by a designer and a computer programmer who wanted to create a place where people could find pen pals, join groups that share the same interests and do swaps.

Swap-bot is a fun website that offers hundreds of swaps on an ongoing basis. New shops and groups are added daily. If you are someone that enjoys meeting people through pen pal letters or you enjoy swapping items with other people then this is the website for you.

Swap-bot is free to join and there will never be a fee. Once you join there is a profile page that you will need to fill out. Filling out your profile is very important because this is how you will learn about the swap partners you get and they can learn about you. If you don't fill out the profile page you might receive something through a swap you don't really like or need.

When you join a swap make sure you can complete the swap. Each swap has a description of the swap and what the requirements are to complete it. At the top of the description there will be a sign up by date and a mail by date. Make sure to check the dates out before you commit to do a swap. If you can't complete a swap with those dates then don't sign up for the swap. Everyone that does the swaps should get something from their partners. It is very discouraging when you don't receive anything.

You can watch the swaps before you join them. By watching you can see how many people join and it also gives you a chance to think about the swap before you commit yourself.

Once the sign up day has passed you will get an email from Swap-bot stating that your swap partner has been picked. You will then go to the description page and there will be a box that has "swap partners to send to". You will click that and your partners name, address and email address will appear.

There are so many swaps available. Some of the items that people do swaps for are: crocheted granny squares, gifts for cats and dogs, ATC's, book swaps, recipe swaps, handmade ornament swaps, makeup swaps, Hello Kitty swaps, sock swaps, post card swaps, thrift store swaps and the list goes on. There is a swap for everyone.

After you have sent your partners swap to them you will go back to the description page and go to the box and click "sent swap". You will now wait for your swap to arrive from your partner. Once your swap arrives you will need to rate the swap. A 5 is the highest rating you can give. If your swap partner sends extra goodies make sure to give them a heart. You can also give a 3 and a 1 rating. These ratings are only used if you have problems receiving your swap. The same thing goes for who ever receives your swap.

This is a very fun website and if you like to get fun mail in your mailbox then this is the website to check out. Everyday will feel like Christmas when you open your mailbox.
