In the second day of the preliminary round of the men's hockey tournament at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Sweden versed Germany. Neither team scored in the first period. They had a similar amount of shots in the first period with Sweden getting six shots and Germany getting seven shots in the first period.

The first goal of the game was scored by Sweden about four and a half minutes into the second period. The first goal was a power play goal. They scored their second goal as an evenhanded goal about fourteen minutes into the second period. The period ended with Sweden ahead two to zero. They out shot Germany 10 to 3 in the period.

The third period was similar to the first in that there was no scoring. Germany again out shot the Swedes. Germany had eleven shots and Sweden had nine shots in the third period. Having more shots, though, did not do anything for Germany with none of them going into the goal.

The shut out was the second men's hockey shutout of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics with the other shut so far being Canada shutting out Norway eight to zero yesterday. It was more of an evenly matched shut out, though, as Sweden only scored two goals and had only four more total shots than Germany in the game.

Sweden's win puts them at the top of the Group C standings with Finland, who beat Belarus earlier today. Germany is at the bottom with Belarus. The next group C match ups are Finland taking on Germany and Belarus taking on Sweden. Both games are on Friday, February 19, 2010.
