Sweet Halloween

Katie D
'Twas the night of Halloween
And all through the street
Children were running
And laughing with glee!

With girls dressed up pretty
and boys as a scare
They rang every doorbell
Of every house there.

When people would answer
They'd not miss a beat
Every child would scream out
"Trick or Treat!"

The candy it flew in
from right and from left
Their bags they filled up
'Til they were too big to heft.

Once the fun is all finished
The neighborhood done
The kids hurry home
for more Halloween fun!

They dump out their bags
and see all they've got
they barter and trade
'til they've got what they want.

They throw out the healthy
or give it to mom
anything but candy
and they want it gone.

The kids stay up late
and stuffed full of sweets
they finally crash
and drift off to sleep.

The stash it lasts long
for several weeks
the kids eat it all up
down to the very last treat.

It's no wonder why
kids all love Halloween
late nights and costumes
huge stashes of sweets.
