Sweet Summer Love

April Higney
A pink and white carnation,
a transparent blue vase sets nicely in the middle.
Wicker chairs with thick cushioned seating,
the sunlight casts shadows, colors, rainbows.
The couple sips on cold tea, listening to the music on the radio,
sounds of the fiddle.

Her hat, large, with flowers along the rim,
she glances from beneath it, smiling upon him.
Her dress fits gracefully, a light purple floral print,
flowing with the wind, like waves crashing in,
she stands up, a little wink, he gets the hint.

Sweet summer love,
they run through the sand,
tickling, and laughing,
splashing feet through the water,
happily hand in hand.

The wind takes her hat, carries it through the sky,
he tries to catch it, like a bird it flies high.
She doesn't care about the loss, him by her side,
her eyes glistening, the thought that he tried.

A pink and white carnation,
a transparent blue vase,
his arms holding her, embracing the floral print,
a wink and a smile, she gets the hint.

Sweet summer love,
they run through the sand,
tickling and laughing,
splashing feet through the water,
happily hand in hand.
