Swimming Attractions in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is one of the state's top travel destinations. Located in beautiful foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, this city hosts a number of fun, family-friendly attractions such as Dolly Wood and Wonderworks. Visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds: the natural mountainous allure of East Tennessee and the fantastic man-made amusements within the town itself.

While several forms of entertainment are available, some travelers just can't get enough of the water. To accommodate these swim lovers, here are three water attractions for a vacation of swimming in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Dolly Wood's Splash Country Adventure Park: If you're looking for a swimming adventure for the family, Splash Country's an excellent choice. This Pigeon Forge water park features over twenty-three waterslides, water-based thrill rides and two water playgrounds for the little ones. A couple of the more adventurous rides are the Big Bear Plunge and the Mountain Scream.

The Big Bear Plunge simulates a natural whitewater rafting experience, sending a group floating through dark caverns, over steep drops and bursting through walls of water. The grand finale is when visitors slide down a tall, bumpy "cliff" into a pool below.

The Mountain Scream is a tall attraction made of three waterslides. Two of the slides are enclosed corkscrew-type slides while the center is an open-air, quadruple-drop slide. Though described as wildly thrilling, customers have complained about the aggressiveness of quadruple-drop slide, warning that you hit the drops uncomfortably hard.

Wilderness at the Smokies: This is a Sevierville resort, and the only way travelers can get access to their water parks is by booking a stay with them. If you do book the resort, though, you get access to four exclusive water parks, including the Wild WaterDome Indoor Water Park, perfect for those who still enjoy a good swim even when the weather's bad.

The other water parks at Wilderness are as follows: Lake Wilderness, a more natural and relaxing take on the water park; Salamander Springs, a traditional outdoor water park; and Cataloockee Creek Adventure Golf, a mix of mini gold and water fun. Any water adventurist would see the value in this resort.

The Resort at Governor's Crossing: This is another resort-water park combination. Like Wilderness at the Smokies, guests here have access to an indoor water park that operates year round, so December swims are a can-do.

The indoor park includes such features as tube slides, an endless swim pool, a twenty person hot tub, a sauna, a large volleyball-equipped pool, and a children's area. When the weather's nice, there are also outdoor water features to enjoy.

Of course, swimming and water parks are far from the only things to do in Pigeon Forge. To see what other attractions this town has to offer, check out their tourism site, My Pigeon Forge. What you find may surprise you and inspire your next trip.

Sounds like fun. I love water parks, or at least used to when I was younger and used to take my son. There is so much to do in Pigeon Forge and the Smokies.
