Swimming Lessons for Toddlers in the Triangle Area of North Carolina

In the process of looking for swimming lessons for toddlers in the Triangle area of North Carolina, we found that there were a multitude of options available at our disposal. Some were private, some were public; some were inexpensive, others were very expensive; and some were once a week, others were several times a week. Here is a list of swimming lessons for toddlers that I have found in my searching in the Triangle area of North Carolina, specifically in the Raleigh and Cary area.

The City of Raleigh offers swimming lessons beginning at infant or toddler age through their Parks and Recreation department. One of the advantages through the City of Raleigh is the wide range of times, ages and options available. One of the disadvantages is that there is an increased cost if you are not a resident of the city of Raleigh ($10 more for non-residents). Swimming lessons through the City of Raleigh can start as early as 6 months of age, with the earliest swimming lessons ranging from 6 months to 3 years, and the toddler swimming lessons ranging from 3 to 5 years. There are several levels within each of these age categories to accommodate children of different ability levels, and the lessons take place at one of several area pools. Cost for swimming lessons is just over $30 for Raleigh residents for a course lasting 5 days. Some are daily for a week, whereas others are over the course of several weeks. There are some deviations to these costs, so it is best to check the Aquatics Brochure to be sure of the cost. You can sign up through the Raleigh Parks and Recreation department via mail, RecLink online registration or by walk in to any staffed recreation site. Cost does not include additional practice time, which may be purchased separately.

Kildaire Farms Racquet and Swim Club provides swim lessons for pool members through use of the Triangle Aquatics Center. There are four sessions available, each lasting for 2 weeks, 4 days per week for a total of 8 classes, each 30 minutes long. There are a number of times available in the morning or evening, and classes can begin when the child is 3 years old. Group lessons are for five students per class at a cost of $80 per child per session. Semi-private or private classes can be purchased at a higher rate.

Rex Wellness Center offers swim classes year round at their indoor pool for both members and non-members. Parent and Tot classes are available for children aged 6 months to 3 years at a rate of $54 for members or $66 for non-members, and beginning swimmers aged 3-6 years can purchase lessons for the same rate. Parents may register their child for classes at Rex Wellness Centers in Raleigh, Wakefield, Cary or Garner. The summer schedule has been posted on the website. Most classes are available on Saturdays at prescribed times. Private swimming lessons for toddlers on up are also available.

The Triangle Aquatic Center near Cary Towne Center in Cary offers swimming lessons for toddlers. Parent-Child classes begin at 6 months to 4 years, with Preschool classes available for children aged 4-6. Toddler swim classes through Triangle Aquatic Center have a huge range of times listed and cost $60 for 6 lessons.

The YMCA in Cary also offers toddler swimming lessons to both members of the YMCA and to the general public, though non-members must wait for a later registration deadline to apply. Parent-Tot classes for children aged 19-36 months cost $30 for members and $45 for non-members for 4 lessons with a variety of times. Preschool classes for children aged 3-5 years range in cost depending on the number of classes taken, from $44-$105 for members (4 to 12 classes) versus $66-$158 for non-members (4 to 12 classes).
