Drowning is a risk anytime water is involved. By following a few simple safety tips your risk will be lowered. The author reminds you of the importance of always having a swimming partner. Also one should never dive into shallow water. They also tell you how to recognize someone is in trouble in the pool. Recognizing someone is in danger is very important. Time is a big factor in saving someone from drowning.

Lets go over some of the swimming pool safety tips you will need to follow to ensure a safe time.

1. Never leave children unsupervised in the swimming pool. Even if it's just to answer the phone or door. A child can drown in the matter of a minute. This also goes no matter how deep or shallow the pool is. Some people seem to think that if the pool is shallow the child is safe. This is untrue, a child can drown in as little water as a puddle. Always keep constant supervision on the children anytime they are in or near the swimming pool. If you have a little pool, empty it while it isn't being used.

2. Learn the correct amount of chemicals to use in the swimming pool. A pool without chemicals can lead to bacteria growth and cause infections. Too much chemicals can cause burns to the eyes and skin. Many swimming pool stores offer water testing. They will test a sample of the pool water and tell you which chemicals and how much you will need.

3.Install a alarm on the pool. There are several different types of alarms made just for swimming pools. Most will sound an alarm when something has made contact with the water. They can be expensive, but are well worth every penny.

4. Take ladders out of the pool and lock them up. Several pools have ladders that can be removed. Lock them up away from the swimming pool. If the ladder is the type that flips up, lock it once it's in the upright position.

5. Install a fence around the swimming pool and keep it locked. Make sure the fence is sturdy and the correct height to keep children from climbing over. Also keep the fence locked when you are not able to supervise the swimming pool area.

6. Consider a locking pool cover for in ground pools. They make covers that can be locked to prevent children from entering the pool. They might be expensive, but think of the added safety they will provide.

7.Take a CPR class. I cannot stress this enough. If you are going to own a pool of any type be prepared. Many local Red Cross organizations offer free CPR classes. It's better too be safe than sorry.

8.Have your children take swimming lessons. While this doesn't offer 100% protection, it does increase the chance of survival should they fall in a swimming pool or other water source.

By following a few simple swimming pool safety tips you will ensure a safe fun time for you and your children.

These are great tips and I wanted to add a couple more. Remove all toys from the pool after swimming, it lessens the temptation for children. Also, have a phone by the pool in case of an emergency so you don't need to leave the pool and go inside.
