Switchblade Tattoo

Switchblade Tattoo sounds like an ominous name, but don't let it scare you away. The tattoo shop was opened in fall of 2008 by the owner and tattoo artist, Crystal Scott. She has been tattooing for about 4 years and is a terrific artist on canvas and on bodies. She does not actually use a switchblade on you, that just happened to be her nickname so she made it her business name as well. Crystal Scott was born and raised here in Forney and really wanted to open her own business here doing what she loves. With the support of her mom and her wife Lindsey, and plenty of friends, she was able to obtain property for her shop and realize her dream. She has taken it from a dingy place once used as a dog groomer business and turned it into a pink and black tattoo palace.

The shop has a really comfortable feel to it as soon as you walk in. There is a nice waiting area complete with a flat screen TV on the wall to keep you entertained while Crystal draws up your tattoo for your approval. There is plenty of flash art but she is always ready and willing to create a custom tattoo for her clients. She also does piercing at the shop and sells an assortment of jewelry to adorn the piercing. There is a room for tattooing, a different room for piercing and an extra room for another tattoo artist she hopes to hire before the summer. If you take a look around the shop you will soon notice all the small toys and action figures adorning the shelves. Crystal wanted to share her collection with her customers.

Switchblade Tattoo is health department approved and always sterilizes their equipment and uses new needles for each tattoo. It is important to make sure those things occur at any place you go to get a tattoo or piercing. And although the shop contains a sign that says, 'Good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good', you will find that you can get a great tattoo at Switchblade for up to 20% cheaper than the tattoo shops in Dallas. They do this to entice out of town customers to come to the Forney shop, get a great tattoo for a good price and then hopefully tell their friends all about it. Word of mouth has been key to the shops booming business.

I decided to write this review because I myself have 6 tattoos done by Crystal Scott, including a half-sleeve tattoo that she started a week ago. I met Crystal about 3 years ago and was the recipient of one of her first tattoos as a working artist. She did such a great job on that one that I have since gone back for 5 others, always happy with each one. When you meet Crystal, you can tell she is passionate about tattooing. She even does cover ups for those unfortunate souls who have met with a less than talented tattoo artist. Although they accept walk-ins at the shop, the best way for you to get what you want is to go in and talk to Crystal first. Bring any reference material you may have about what tattoo you want, then make an appointment to come in and get a tattoo you can be proud to show off. She does color and black and gray tattoos. The shop is open Monday-Saturday.
