Switching Over to a Summer Make-Up Routine for Foundation and Lipstick

Summer Foundation and Lipstick Needs and Wants Differ from Those of Winter

Transitioning to summer for many of us mandates a change in wardrobe from heavy winter garments to light summer clothing and more breathable fibers. For many women, it also means a transition in make-up used and colors applied. This is only to be expected as the condition of the skin changes and typical make-up needs change throughout the months of the year.

Changing Foundation Type and Shade

Changing the foundation type is not something that necessarily has to be done in a transition to summer, and there are many women who wish to cultivate a consistent look that would prefer not to transition at all. For more casual wearers of make-up or for women who like to mix-up their look to suit the season, summer is the perfect time to switch from a heavy cream or liquid foundation to more light-weight and inconspicuous make-up choices like mineral make-up. There are even a few lucky women who can switch to bronzer only for the summer and look well-groomed.

The main benefit that comes with switching foundation types has to do more with how your skin feels than how it looks. Even if your current foundation does not run in the summer heat, it feels so much more present during the warm weather. Mineral make-up and light powders typically avoid this feeling and have a much smaller chance of running when applied correctly.

Whether or not the foundation shade has to change really depends on whether or not you spend any time out in the sun. Even a little time spent gardening or recreating in the year can darken the skin tone enough to merit the foundation needing to be upgraded to a darker shade.

Changing Lipstick Type and Color

Your lipstick type, especially if you are a younger woman, should ideally switch from matte to a slightly shinier look in the summer. While a full-on lip gloss can leave a grown person looking young and immature, a light one can lend a hint of allure and a dewy freshness to the face.

Lipstick colors do not have to change in the summer, but just as one usually begins to incorporate brighter clothing in the spring and summer, softer lipstick shades should be brought out. A deep red lip looks out of place amongst the canvas of lovely spring and summer weather. Unless you're Lady Gaga, try to bring a few corals and other soft shades into your lip palette.

Transitioning from winter to spring and summer with your make-up, in particular your foundation and lipstick, is a great way to keep your face fresh looking and seasonally in tune. Make-up was made to enhance your face, and keeping these enhancements in tune with the season is a great concept.
