Sylvania Netbook from CVS: Wi-Fi

It Works for Me

Barbie Crafts
In the time since I wrote my first articles about my experience with my Sylvania Netbook from CVS, the most comments I have gotten have had to do with difficulty accessing the Internet via Wi-fi hotspots or wireless home internet. It is hard for me to evaluate the validity of the complaints, and it's not my job to do that. I will say that I have been able to access the Internet in my own protected wireless environment, Krystal Burgers Wi-fi hotspot, the local hospital with a password provided, and in my daughter's college parking lot on a very weak, probably accidental signal.

It is important to note that I have had to do some jiggling around with settings in order to get the Internet to work. There are not but two little places that have any options to choose, and the choices are not complicated, Many readers commented that they could get on Internet, but the little browser would not work. This is what happens on my "code-protected" wireless when I don't have the code punched in.

These problems may be a matter of set-up, or it could be that there were problems with the devices that need to be worked out. I do not know the answer. I do know that you will have to play around with the settings to get them set to the network you are trying to access. Usually the wireless network will pop up automatically, and you may need to adjust some settings under the tab for wireless.

When I am using my home system, I have the settings on "Allow windows to configure." I also have "WEP," and "Shared Network" chosen. The key code is 1, and I put the code to my router in the appropriate box. Some of this information is available from your Internet Provider. The little manual that comes with the Sylvania Netbook is good, but not inclusive.
